More and more, women are making the switch to all natural products. There are so many benefits, it’s no wonder. Americans are becoming more health conscious and want to know what ingredients make up their products, how products are tested and if they contain toxins. Here are a few benefits to using natural products in your beauty routine.

Why Natural Is Better

First and foremost, the biggest question when thinking of switching to all natural products, is if natural is actually better. In truth, answering this question depends on how natural or organic are defined. When you read the word natural on product packaging, it should mean that nothing artificial, synthetic or chemical is used to make the product.

While natural refers to if it’s artificial or not, organic refers to how a product is farmed. To be organic, a product must be grown and prepared without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, sulphates, antibiotics and so on. Organic goes hand-in-hand with natural because, if a product is not grown without harmful toxins, it shouldn’t be considered natural.

Synthetic chemicals that are okayed in product production mean more toxins in your body. Toxins are bad for the body. They harm many specific body functions, making them harmful to your system.

Why Are Toxins Bad?

Toxins have many harmful effects on the body. For one, they damage enzymes, which makes it harder for your body to produce hemoglobin and makes it harder for your body to prevent free-radical damage. This sort of damage makes you age more quickly.

Toxins have other negative effects on your body as well. Toxins can displace structural minerals, like calcium, which can lead to weaker bones. They can also negatively affect vital organs and even throw off your hormones.

Natural Alternatives

These are the reasons that make it so important to switch to products like natural toothpaste and natural deodorant. The products you see in the grocery store often contain harmful ingredients. In fact many brands of the popular aerosol sunscreen were pulled from shelves because they contain octocrylene.

There is concern that octocrylene may degrade into a carcinogen that can interfere with hormones like estrogen. It’s not just body care products that you should consider switching out. Makeup and hair care products can also contain toxins that can be damaging to your health. They can have adverse effects on the aging process as well.

Natural Products Are Better For the Environment

Aside from the damage that unnatural products can do to your body, there are other reasons to consider making the switch. For one, they’re better for the environment. Synthetic products can harm animals and plants that they come into contact with. If these products seep onto the ground, they can hurt ecosystems.

The manufacturing process in and of itself also harms the environment and animals. Many unnatural products are tested on animals, which can be harmful to the animals. This process is inhumane since the animals don’t have a say in the treatment.

They’re Better For Your Skin

In addition to being better for the environment and better for your health, natural products are better for your skin as well. Natural products are full of vitamins that do good things for your skin and won’t cause negative hormonal reactions. Natural products are packed with vitamins, antioxidants and essential oils. These are meant to be used on your body and will keep your skin looking young and healthy longer.

How to Know It’s Natural

So you want to make the switch? How do you know what’s natural and what isn’t? Aside from the packaging, look at the ingredient list. Ingredients on natural products will be much more recognizable than on unnatural products. If you’re unsure, look up ingredients before purchasing. It’s easy to quickly find if something is natural or unnatural if you do a quick search.

There are so many reasons to make the switch to natural and organic skincare products. You only get this one body, so take care of it and keep it free of toxins.
