People don’t put enough “weight” on certain causal outcomes. Okay, that’s a complex sentence, let’s break it down. Causality is a fancy word that describes the domino effect. A leads to B, B leads to C, C leads to D, etc. Flowers initiate a number of positive outcomes directly, and as a domino effect outcome of causal relationships.

Collateral Health Benefits

For example, let’s think about the placebo effect, and the will to live. The will to live is something that no medicine or cheerleader can instill within a person. They must of their own volition “will” their personal healing.

It’s a real phenomenon that has been medically observed. So also has the placebo effect, where people physically benefit from their misunderstanding. When people believe something, that something may just become true, even if there’s no physical reason for it.

Those who take a placebo believe they’ve taken medicine, and their mind creates an approximation of the positive benefits from the medicine they think they’ve taken. The end results are physically verifiable in a scientific way.

Well, floral arrangements are casual like that. The appearance of flowers, the smell of flowers, their placement in the center of a table, or in corners of the room; all contribute to a positive collateral mental benefit. And it’s a very real benefit; it’s not something nebulous. Human beings are meant to be around greenery, and it has a legitimate psychological effect.

The Psychosomatic Angle

Psychology can produce psychosomatic outcomes. Sometimes people get injured when they’re sleeping because the same mental energies behind the placebo effect can come into play then. So floral arrangements at the corner of the eye have a causal domino effect on personal thinking, which directly affects personal health.

But it goes deeper. There are some surprising benefits of flowers, extending beyond the psychosomatic to the physical. Flora purifies the air. Plants use sunlight for photosynthesis. They also need water, and they also “breathe” the air. They intake carbon dioxide and produce oxygen as a byproduct. During this process, toxins are filtered from the air.

Certain plants are even used by NASA in space for this reason. Beyond such scientific applications of flora, plants can yield increased productivity. If you’re surrounded by plants in a working environment, especially floral arrangements with strong positive aromas, you’re likely going to get more work done - and more quickly.

Whether you work at home or in an office, having flowers around is conducive to your overall health. And if you’re sick, doctors have found being surrounded by healthy plants tends to have a positive effect on your recovery, expediting it over similar patient recoveries relying on medication, and absence of flora—read about it here.

Natural Life Enhancement

So the takeaway here is: flowers help you mentally through collateral psychological effects of an archetypical kind buried deep in the psyche. In other words, they make you feel better, and they make anywhere seem more “fresh” and “homey.”

Meanwhile, plants physically filter the air, and have been known to initiate collateral productivity. Altogether, beyond simply being pretty, these things recommend surrounding yourself and your associates with fine floral arrangements. Find the flowers you like and put them everywhere.
