How long have you been suffering from back pain? If medication doesn't seem to be helping, you may have a serious issue. This is all the more true if you have pain that seems to linger on without end. If nothing seems to be working on your behalf, you have a decision to make. Now might be the time to see a specialist for your back pain.

What Happens if Your Pain Becomes Chronic?

How often do you have pains in your back? Are they short-lived but very acute? Do they sometimes appear after you engage in certain activities? Do they go away for long periods but suddenly recur at unexpected moments? These are all questions that you should be asking yourself. It's a good idea to keep track of when pain strikes you.

If your condition lasts for more than three months, this is a good indication that your pain has become chronic. If this is the case, you should definitely make plans to see a doctor for neck and back pain. This is the expert who will be able to diagnose your condition. They are the ones who can give you the treatment that you need to get rid of your pain.

How Long Does Your Pain Have to Last?

Another factor to keep in mind is just how long your pain lasts. If you suddenly had back pain as a result of lifting a heavy object or straining yourself while playing sports, this may not be a huge issue. The pain may subside after a while and you can go back to your normal routine. You may not need to see any kind of back pain doctor.

But if the pain started then and has never gone away, chances are high that this is acute back pain of a chronic nature. If you have been in pain for so long that you can't remember a time when your back didn't hurt, this is a red flag. If this is the case, you need to see a doctor. This may be your only chance to escape this pain.

Does Your Pain Travel Down Your Leg?

One of the most common signs of acute back or neck pain is when it travels all the way down to your leg. If this should happen, you can take it as a definite sign of problems with your spinal nerve root. This nerve may be inflamed, compressed, or seriously injured. This is a situation that requires immediate medical attention from a specialist.

The pain that you are feeling may be due to this spinal nerve having been pinched too hard or injured in some manner. The pressure that your nerve is feeling can cause shock waves of pain to rain all the way down your back and clear down to your leg. At this point, you will probably be in enough pain to want to see a doctor immediately.

Is Your Quality of Life Being Affected?

There is only so much you can do when you are trying to live your life with recurring back pain. If it gets worse and lasts longer no matter how hard you try to relax, it's a sure sign that things are never going to get better. You owe it to yourself to get the relief that you need to regain your mobility as well as your quality of life.

Your best bet to do so will be to make an appointment with a specialist in back and neck pain. This will be the best way to get the treatment you need to make your pain go away. You may find that the treatment you get puts an immediate and welcome end to your issue.

The Time to See a Specialist is Now

If you find yourself living with back or neck pain for long periods of time, you need to take action. There is no reason why you should have to put up with a serious pain condition that hampers your quality of life. Your best bet will be to pay a visit to a specialist who can help you get rid of it. The time to do so is as soon as possible.
