We may not think about the need for strong bones and how to keep them in the healthiest possible shape. When we do not take care of our bones, they can become weaker and over time, may end up needing osteoporosis treatments. The best way to avoid any issues with your bones is to maintain a healthy lifestyle that helps them stay strong and healthy.
Get An Early Start
Our bones go through their most formative years through childhood and into early adulthood. By age 30, our bones have gained about all the density they are going to have, so ensuring they get what they need early in life is key. Low bone density can cause issues such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, as well as having bones that tend to break more easily. It is essential to start a lifetime of strong bones with good habits early on.
Eat Your Veggies
When Dad told us to eat our vegetables every night, he may have been on to something. Vegetables are packed with nutrients and vitamins that are essential for every aspect of our body’s growth and daily functions. Vitamin C can be found in many vegetables and can stimulate the production of bone-forming cells. Vitamin C may even work to help protect your bones from further damage.
Exercise Does Your Bones Good
We all know how important staying active can be for our weight and other parts of our bodies. Our bones can also use some daily exercise to become and stay strong for us. When you are aiming to increase the strength of your bones, weight-bearing exercises can be the most effective at any age. There are many types of activities that fall under this category: walking, running, dancing, golf, and tennis are just a few of the popular weight-bearing activities that can promote strong bones.
Stop Smoking And Drinking
How you live your life obviously plays a great deal on how your body treats you. Two common habits that can lead to increased bone loss in adults is smoking and drinking. If you are going to drink, it is recommended that you keep it to a drink or two occasionally. Smoking cigarettes and nicotine products may also contribute to bone loss over time.
If we take care of our bones, they will take care of us. Good bone health begins early but lasts a lifetime.
