Your Wellness Reflects On Your Skin

Trusted Health Products

Investing heavily on skincare is one of the leading trends in beauty nowadays. Having Korean glass skin has been the ultimate beauty goal in recent years, and various skincare products have been flying off the shelves. YouTube tutorials for taking care of the skin are also becoming more and more popular.

With the abundance of tips and information about skin care on the internet, you might feel too overwhelmed to start or revamp your personalized skincare routine. But don’t despair. As you read on, you will find out about the basics of skin care.

In our book, taking care of your health is the number one step to taking care of your skin. So, expect practical tips that you can apply every day.

Wash your face at least twice a day.

Washing your face at least twice a day can prevent pimples since it keeps your face clean and fresh. If you have oily skin, washing your face often is even more important. Don’t forget to use a mild cleanser that does not contain too many ingredients and fragrances. In other words, you probably don’t need an expensive, 20-in-one skin cleanser.

Additionally, limit your skin’s exposure to steam and hot water. Exposure to heat can strip away oil from your skin and make you look dull and tired. This means that using warm or cold water for your face is more advisable. Also, try to shorten your shower time.

Moisturize after washing your face.

Applying moisturizer does wonders for skin stripped of oil. But it’s wrong to say that moisturizers are only for dry skin. Regardless of your skin type, your skin needs to be moisturized. Using moisturizer right after a bath or face washing helps seal moisture in.

Instead of fixating on the brand name or price tag, check if your moisturizer is labeled noncomedogenic (or non-acnegenic). That means that the product is not likely to clog your pores and cause breakouts. Also, consider using a moisturizer that contains SPF.

Always use sunscreen.

Protecting yourself from the sun is a year-round mission. You should wear sunscreen whether you are indoors or outdoors and whether it rains or shines. Constant exposure to UV rays can speed up the appearance of signs of aging on our skin. Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Lastly, go beyond applying sunscreen by using wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses to protect yourself from sun damage.

Keep yourself hydrated.

Just like we mentioned earlier, being healthy in general will help you have beautiful, glowing skin. Drinking plenty of water is important for your overall wellness, and for the health of your skin.

A 2015 study by Palma et al. has established a link between drinking lots of water and having healthier skin, but generally, the reason why water is good for your skin is that it helps your skin cells function properly. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

Avoid smoke.

Smoking makes your skin look older because it contributes to the development of wrinkles. It also gives your skin a paler appearance. It also increases your chances of developing pimples and acne. Smoke also damages the fibers that make your skin strong and elastic. You should also avoid secondhand smoke because of its similarly harmful effects.

If you’ve picked up a smoking habit but you want to quit, you can ask for help from a professional. Not only does quitting benefit your skin, it will also improve your overall physical health.

Check your diet.

Just like the rest of your body, your skin gets nourishment from the food you eat. Avoid sugar and processed foods. Fried foods and refined carbohydrates (e.g., pastries and pasta) are also to be consumed in moderation.

Eat more greens, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins. Taking probiotics is also recommended for boosting your immune system, improving digestion, and making your skin glow.

Choose makeup products carefully.

If you read or watch beauty hacks regularly, you probably have a long list of miracle products you want to try. But trying them all might not be the best idea. Everybody has a unique skin type, and skincare products work differently on us. In other words, even if a famous beauty influencer swears by a certain brand, it may not work wonders on your skin.

That’s why it is so important for you to choose products that are suitable for your skin type and skin conditions, if any. Consulting a dermatologist is a good idea if you think you need extra help in choosing the right products and treating any existing conditions.

Bonus tip: Check your hair products and toothpaste, too. While you don’t directly apply these products to your face, they still are in contact with your skin regularly. Water-based hair products and plain toothpaste are your friends.

Sleep more and stress less.

Rest and relaxation should be part of your beauty routine. Exercising, meditating, doing yoga, and journaling are just a few ways that you can relieve your stress. Find an activity that helps you reduce stress and do it more often. Additionally, you can try having skin care therapeutic techniques as a treat.

Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. You will not only feel more energized, but you will also have lower chances of getting acne. Also, don’t forget to regularly change your sheets and pillowcases.

Final tip

The secret to healthy skin is a healthy body. Apart from proper skincare products, your skin will benefit from good hygiene, a balanced diet, enough sleep, avoiding smoke, and regular exercise.
