The Wonders Of Babassu Seed Oil

Also called cusi oil, babassu seed oil is harvested from the seed of the babassu palm using the cold-press method. This palm tree whose botanical name is Attalea speciosa, originated in the northern and central regions of Brazil in the Amazon Rainforest of South America. A veritable fountain of youth, it is a favorite ingredient in natural and organic cosmetics because it softens, restores, moisturizes, and repairs dry, flaky or damaged skin.

It is often compared to coconut oil, but users of both have found babassu seed oil to be superior in a number of ways. For example, it is not as heavy or greasy. In fact, it is lightweight enough to be used every day. Speaking of everyday routines: it wont stain your clothes or smear your furniture, smartphone, or other items you handle on a regular basis. Its stainless and virtually odorless, so youll barely know its there.

And unlike coconut oil, babassu seed oil is fast absorbing and doesnt clog your pores, which makes it great for acne-prone skin. Its rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that promotes healthy skin cell growth. It also contains phytosterols, which are steroid compounds that can protect the collagen in your skin leaving it soft, supple, and youthful.

Babassu seed oil isnt just a face-saving miracle. It is equally effective at moisturizing and healing rough, cracked heels; chapped lips; and minor burns and abrasions. The high lauric acid content gives it antimicrobial properties that can protect skin from germs and prevent infections. And it soothes red, itchy, inflamed skin from insect bites; allergic reactions to plants; and sunburn; as well as chronic irritation from eczema, rosacea or psoriasis.

You can blend it with other essential oils like lavender or peppermint without worrying about a clash of fragrances giving you a headache. And during your next home-based mani-pedi, try massaging it into the cuticles of your toes and fingers. It will clean and strengthen your nails and soften your skin beautifully. And if thats not enough it can revitalize dry scalp, eliminate dandruff, and clean and condition your hair!
