Peppermint oil is relatively well known in many different circles, especially the essential oil and holistic health community. Due to its ability to be used in varying ways it is mentioned quite often as an essential oil that is available when many others can be a bit difficult to get.
It has a long history of being used for certain medical conditions with great success. It is a strong smelling oil that has amazing cognitive and physical benefits. Here are all the ways that peppermint oil can positively improve certain issues and conditions.
Menthol Chest Rub
Many of the over-the-counter menthol chest rubs on the market are useful, but they also have specific chemicals within them that shouldn't be used on the skin. Peppermint oil and a variation of other oils can provide a much better, healthier alternative.
Mix ounce of beeswax, two ounces of coconut oil, 10 drops of peppermint, 10 drops of eucalyptus and 10 drops of wintergreen. This makes a highly effective rub that you can apply freely to your chest.
Clear Sinuses
Simply inhaling peppermint oil can help with congested sinuses. Finding yourself unable to breathe clearly when seasonal allergies hit can sometimes be incredibly uncomfortable. It may cause you to sneeze and suffer from watering eyes and extreme sinus headaches.
The steam inhalation method works well to help alleviate these symptoms. Boil a pot of purified water. While the water is still steaming, add a few drops of peppermint oil into the pot, lower your face over the water and inhale. You can also add the oil to a diffuser or a humidifier but it may take a bit longer to work. The steam method is much more immediate.
Oral Health
Peppermint oil is a much more effective and immediate way to deal with many oral health issues that sometimes can't be fixed with brushing and flossing exclusively. If you suffer from bad breath, you can make your very own homemade peppermint mouthwash that will eliminate all the bad breath-causing germs that exists in hard to reach crevices of your mouth.
Add three drops of peppermint oil, three drops of tea tree oil, and two teaspoons of baking soda. Gargle with this mixture twice a day and notice how your bad breath disappears. Peppermint oil is also known to work well on toothaches. Take a drop or two and apply it directly to the affected tooth.
Appetite Suppressant
If you are trying to watch what you eat but have a serious sweet tooth or can't seem to stay away from the carbs, this oil can definitely help keep you on track. Simply inhaling the strong fragrance of peppermint oil can eliminate those pesky munchies and cravings as well as help you feel less hungry faster.
Just a few drops on the inside of your wrist or on your chest will have you consuming less at dinner and allow you to say no to those carb and sugar cravings that can throw you off track.
