Going To The Sauna Benefits Your Skin

There’s nothing more invigorating than enjoying time in the sauna. While it leaves you feeling completely refreshed, your skin is even happier when you take the time out to luxuriate within one. As it turns out, saunas have great benefits for your skin!

Opens up pores

When your pores open up, they regulate your body temperature. But in doing so, they release sweat which helps clear out toxins from your skin.

Helps you detox

It’s not just your body that gets a nice detox though. As your skin sweats it out, it restores and rejuvenates. If you have clogged pores, going to the sauna can help you clear them out. That means less breakouts for you!

Better circulation

Circulation for skin is always important. When your blood flow increases to your skin, so too does oxygen flow. That means you get more nutrients delivered to your skin for a healthier, more beautiful complexion naturally!

Before you head to your local sauna though, if you have sensitive skin, you may want to hold off. Those with sensitive skin have more salt concentrated in their sweat which could cause irritation. If you have rosacea, it may permanently encourage deeper redness in your face. Other skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis can also be irritated by going to the sauna so be careful if you have them.

For those that can make use of the sauna, it’s important to shower off right after your session. That’s because the salt from your sweat lingers on your skin. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it can lead to an irritation. For a really great boost, try a cold shower to rejuvenate your skin, only if you don’t have any heart conditions.

Don’t forget to practice sauna safety tips too, no matter how healthy you are! Here are some things you should never do when you go to the sauna.

Don’t drink alcohol

Sorry, but sauna time after a boozy brunch is a bad idea. Even afterward, you should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages.

Know how much time to spend

You should never go beyond 15 to 20 minutes in the sauna. Too much time can be dehydrating.

Take care to hydrate

Once you get out of the sauna, grab anywhere from two to four glasses of cool water. It’s important to replenish your hydration.

Always listen to your body

Even if you’ve only been in the sauna for just a few minutes, if you don’t feel well, get out. Sit and sip water before you attempt getting up again.

As long as you don’t have skin conditions and practice safe sauna use, you’ll find it can really benefit the beauty of your skin!
