Everyone wants their skin to be in top shape for the summer months. The heat and humidity often make it uncomfortable to cover any imperfections with makeup, so having clear skin is a must. Summer is also generally a time where everyone is showing a bit more skin. Do yourself a huge favor and take care of your skin with these following steps and you will have amazing skin for the season and the rest of the year to follow.
Start From Within
The best way to take care of your skin is to make sure you are taking care of your whole body. What you put in it regularly in terms of food and nutrients makes a huge difference for your skin. If you happen to be a picky eater you might be sorely lacking in the nutrition to get your skin in tip-top shape.
To supplement the lack of variety in your diet, try adding probiotics for skin to your supplements routine. Probiotics keep your gut in excellent health and there is evidence that skin struggles can be linked to the state of your gut. If you take the time and effort to get your insides working well, you just may find that your skin suddenly becomes much healthier too.
Quench Your Thirst
While you are making sure to feed yourself well and get your gut in order, make sure you are also properly hydrating. Our bodies are made primarily of water and your skin loves every extra dose of hydration it can get. Don't just count on moisturizers to keep your skin plump. Your skin is one of the first parts of your body that can show signs that you are dehydrated.
Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day. Set an alarm or download an app to make sure you aren't missing a water break. After about a month of tracking it, you will probably keep yourself well hydrated without even thinking about it. If you keep your thirst quenched you will be glowing before you know it.
Keep It Clean
For your skin to truly shine this summer you really need to thoroughly cleanse it. That means you need to give it a good wash in the morning and twice at night. Many people do not properly wash their skin, and unfortunately, they are suffering from the consequences. Double cleansing in the evenings is definitely the most important part.
If you wear makeup and sunscreen, you need to remove all of it from your face before you cleanse it again. Makeup wipes will not properly break down the makeup and sunblock, so a full double cleanse is your best bet. Find an oil-based cleanser for your first cleanse because it will break down all the products you have used on your face for the day. Follow up with a cream or gel cleanser to then give your face a nice deep clean.
Wear Protection Always
Sunscreen and summer go hand in hand, but the truth is to get your skin in shape for summer you need to use sun protection year-round. The sun may be stronger in the summer, but it has damaging effects that can wreak havoc on your skin even in winter. Find an SPF you love and wear it every day year-round.
Sun damage is what causes most premature aging. Too much sun exposure can give you dark spots on your face and make it more difficult for any acne scarring to disappear. It may seem harmless to tan, but you will do the health of your skin a big favor if you always remember to be out in the sun safely. Always remember to reapply on the days you are in the sun for long stretches.
Having glowing skin this summer won't require multiple facials or special skin treatments. Simply taking care of yourself properly with nutrition, water, and cleansing will do wonders for your skin. Most importantly, go overboard with your sun protection. Chances are your friends and family will be jealous of how amazing your skin looks this summer.
