Psoriasis is a skin infection. It appears as the dryness and flakiness of the skin. However, it lives deep below the skin. This condition starts in your immune system, connected with a specific type of white blood cell. Sadly, this skin condition has no cure. However, some precautionary measures and treatment tips can minimize its effects.

Of course, you should consult a professional dermatologist for recommendations of medication. But it’s safe to use the following remedies alongside your medicines.

Moisturize Your Skin

Since this condition affects the skin, the treatment begins from here too. To keep your skin from getting flaky, you’ll have to keep it super moisturized all the time. Keep a body lotion or cream in reach.  However, make sure it’s suitable for sensitive skin. If the product irritates your skin, discontinue its usage.

Other than a lotion, you should incorporate moisturizing products in other parts of your routine too. For example, if you live in a dry atmosphere, consider purchasing a humidifier for your apartment or room. Use oil-based shower gels to wash your body. Feel free to add in a few drops of body oil in your baths. Adding a bit of argan oil can do wonders. Also, avoid products that will dry out the skin such as fragrances.

Use Supplements

As mentioned above, psoriasis begins inside your immune system. Ideally, you should be treating your insides just as much as your skin. Supplements can help your body regain the balance that caused the issue in the first place.

Anything that will make your skin more moisturized is great. Fish oil and omega fatty acids work great. Similarly, aloe vera, vitamin D, and milk thistle are also good supplements to consider. One thing to keep in mind is that new supplements may make you feel nauseous and cause stomach issues. Do not panic. Just reduce the dosage. If it still makes you uncomfortable, discontinue its use.

Prefer Sunlight Therapy

Ever wondered if there’s something common between psoriasis treatment and sunlight? What you need to do is stand in the sunlight for a few moments. You can expose your affected skin to sunlight for intervals between 15 minutes to 30 minutes every day.

Make sure not to dive into this remedy at once. Sunburns can worsen your condition. It can also increase the risk of skin cancer. Therefore, only head out with sunscreen on, covered in clothes, and not for too long. If you want to increase your resistance against sunburns, increase your sunlight exposure time intervals by 30 seconds each day.

If you’re taking medication for psoriasis, consult with your doctor. Some medicines make the skin more sensitive to sunlight. So, if that’s the case, you cannot and should not use this tip.

Avoid Smoking And Alcohol

Alcohol and tobacco have the tendency to trigger psoriasis from the roots. Even if you don’t have the condition yet, these two can affect you. You can only imagine how bad the situation will get for someone who is already suffering.

Both alcohol consumption and smoking can make your skin irritated and dry. Other symptoms of psoriasis can also get worse. People who smoke or drink alcohol are twice as likely to develop psoriasis.

The Takeaway

Psoriasis isn’t a consistent condition. It varies from person to person which is why not all treatments work for every affected individual.

Since these remedies are easy to try, you can jump from one to another to figure out which one works best for your case. But with that, you should also visit a doctor to get a proper diagnosis.
