3 Ways To Be Gentler On Your Body And The Earth

Surprisingly, what's better for your body often can be much better for the planet too. It's no secret that human beings are creating a lot of waste, more than we can properly deal with in an ecologically sound manner.

There are many small things each of us can be more mindful of that will result in a cleaner earth and a cleaner body for you, and for the generations that follow you on the earth.

1. Find a Natural Multi-Use Bar Soap

Instead of using fancy body washes that often are packed in single-use plastic and loaded with chemicals and fillers, buy a simple multi-use bar soap like a good natural goat's milk, olive oil, or castile soap bar. You can use this single bar as body wash, shampoo, and even laundry soap in some cases.

This is good for the planet because it reduces the amount of single-use plastics coming into your household, which reduces energy spent on recycling and keeps the plastics out of the landfills and oceans.

If you've been wondering how does recycling save energy when it takes so much energy to recycle the majority of materials that are eligible for recycling, then you're probably happy to reduce packaging waste, especially plastics, as much as possible.

A good natural bar soap is often only packaged in a paper wrapping, which is both biodegradable and recyclable. If there is an additional plastic film wrapping on the soap, it can usually be added to plastic grocery bag recycling bins that are often located inside grocery store entrances.

2. Put Cardboard to Work in Your Garden

Growing and eating your own food is great for your body. If you have a little bit of land, there's no reason not to put in at least a small food plot so you can enjoy some fresh homegrown vegetables every year. Time spent weeding the garden patch is a major drawback for many gardeners.

In steps cardboard to save the day. If you're like many people these days you might be ordering more goods online, therefore receiving vast amounts of cardboard packaging. While cardboard can be reused in many ways around the house, one of the best kept secrets is that it makes a great weed deterent in your garden and landscaping.

Simply layer the cardboard two to three boxes thick on top of short mown grass or soil, soak the boxes well with water, and then cover them with several inches of mulch in your landscaping or a few inches of aged mulch and garden soil for a garden bed.

Plant your garden seeds into soil on top of the bed. This is one method of creating a simple no-dig style garden bed.

3. Keep Skincare Minimalist

Good skincare doesn't have to cost a bundle or involve a different product for every part of your body. Instead of buying face cream, body butter, foot lotion, and hand balm, just try to find one oil that works well with your skin type. A good oil for sensitive skin and all skin types is almond oil. Coconut oil works well for dry skin.

Other simple moisturizers you can look into include evening primrose oil, rosehips oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil. There are many others as well, but start with researching and trying some of the common go-to oils for skincare first to see what works best for you.

Once you find the right oil for your skin you can eliminate the packaging from all the other products you were purchasing and just buy a good bulk size of the oil you like. You can also use it on your hair once in a while for a deep conditioning. Your body will be happier with the simpler and gentler treatment of your skin and so will the planet.

When it comes to being better to your body and the planet, think simple and think natural. While there is a plethora of products available, sometimes the kindest solution for yourself and for the planet is simply to return to the bare basics.
