Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a common occurrence when oral hygiene is not properly practiced. Periodontal disease has been linked to diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases, so its important to consistently take care of your oral health and schedule regular dentist office visits in order to prevent gum disease from developing. If the onset of gum disease has already occurred, then it is also important to visit a dental specialist in order to treat it.

There are several risk factors for periodontal disease that have been identified by experts in the dental field. These risk factors include being more than 35 years old, being male, avoiding or not having access to proper dental care, irregular or inconsistent flossing habits, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, and rheumatoid arthritis. However, no one is immune to periodontal disease, even if they do not fit any of the identified risk factors. Up to 90% of people will experience periodontal disease at some point in their life.

Not only does periodontal disease affect the appearance of teeth, it also affects overall health and well being. When oral hygiene is neglected, plaque can build up in the mouth. Plaque is a bacterial biofilm that can calcify into tartar if not regularly cleaned. Tartar cannot be removed through brushing, so it is important to regularly visit a dental professional in order to have built up plaque removed from the teeth. If gum disease is caught in time it may be reversible by certain dental procedures. Check with your dentist.

It is important to treat periodontal disease as soon as possible in order to prevent future health problems from occurring. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss, Alzheimer's, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and oral cancer. Periodontal disease has also been linked to premature birth in pregnant women. This is why preventative measures like practicing good oral health and visiting the dentist on a regular basis, are important in order to help keep your mouth clean and healthy.

Although periodontal disease is a common occurrence, especially in teens and older adults, it is still a serious health concern that should be addressed by your dentist. It is important to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of periodontal disease so that you can voice your concerns at your next dental appointment. Some of these symptoms include chronic bad breath, red or swollen gums, pain when chewing, loose teeth, bleeding gums, tooth sensitivity and receding gums. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you should be sure to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. Your dentist will examine your mouth and may choose to take an X-ray to see if there is any bone loss. Once a diagnosis is made, your dentist will begin your treatment. It is vital to maintain regular oral hygiene because not only will it ensure a beautiful smile, but also a healthy mouth and healthy body.

  • For this reason, periodontal disease can aggravate other inflammation-causing illnesses, such as rhuematoid arthritis, respiratory disease, kidney cancer, and even blood cancers like leukemia. Periodontal disease has also been found to increase blood sugar, which is why it is so troublesome in people who have diabetes.https://alhambracustomcabinets.com/
