Oral health is important for many reasons. For one, having a healthy mouth means that eating and drinking are comfortable and easy. Good oral hygiene is also linked to better overall health.

Beautiful healthy teeth are also more attractive, so you can smile and talk to others with confidence if your mouth is in good condition. You may think that staying on top of brushing, flossing, and dental cleanings is enough to keep your teeth in great shape, but taking the time to eat well to enhance your oral health is also very important.

Be Mindful of Your Liquids

One of the easiest ways to help ensure you have strong and healthy teeth is to monitor what drinks you are consuming. Even what you rinse or swish with while cleaning your mouth is important to be aware of.

Questions like is hydrogen peroxide safe for teeth or what commercial mouthwashes are safe, are facts you should be investigating.  It may seem obvious to skip sodas and sugary drinks, but you may forget that even natural substances like lemon juice can be damaging to your teeth.

When it comes to beverages it is best to keep them in water as much as possible. If you love hot drinks, consider switching from coffee to tea. Black and green tea both contain polyphenols that can actually help fight bad bacteria in your mouth. The reason liquids can be so important is that you often consume them between meals. Making sure you aren't doing damage between eating will help your teeth stay extra healthy.

Stick to Fiber-Rich Foods

Fruits and vegetables that are full of healthy fibers do wonders for your teeth. They keep your teeth cleaner but they also help your body produce extra saliva, which is your own natural defense to keeping your teeth healthy. Fruits and vegetables also contain lots of vitamins and minerals which can also help keep your teeth strong.

Avoid Candy And Sticky Items

Candy and sticky starchy foods like white bread are prone to get stuck in your teeth. Anything stuck in your teeth and gums will be prone to bacteria build-up and decay. The extra sugar in candy can also lead to tooth sensitivity over time, and in general, the extra sugar is never good for your overall health.

If you find you have a sweet tooth, try to brush immediately after eating your treats. An even better idea would be to try to limit your candy intake by chewing on sugar-free gum after meals. You can get a kick of sweetness from the gum, and chewing on it will also increase saliva which will continue to strengthen your teeth.

Get Plenty of Dairy

Dairy foods such as milk, cheese, and yogurts are wonderful for your teeth. Not only does the extra calcium keep your gums and teeth strong, but dairy products also aid in saliva production. One of the bigger problems with teeth is enamel wearing away, and dairy can actually help repair the enamel on your teeth. It's a great idea to make sure you are getting a healthy dose of dairy every day.

Limit Alcohol

One of the worst things that can happen to your mouth is it being dry. As mentioned previously, saliva is your body's natural defense for your mouth and is essential to keeping your teeth and gums healthy. So having a mouth that tends to run dry can be very problematic for some people. One of the biggest culprits of having a dry mouth is consuming too much alcohol, so keep your drinking of it limited.

Having a healthy mouth doesn't have to be too difficult. Making a few simple changes to your diet can make a world of difference for your teeth. Try implementing a few of the previously mentioned suggestions and you might be surprised just how easy it is to keep your mouth in tip-top condition.
