Receding gumlines is when your gumline sinks further and further back due to the gum wearing away. When this occurs, you can not only visually see the difference, but it also opens up larger pockets for bacteria to sink in and cause larger issues.

• Genetics

Sometimes, gum recession can just be due to genetics. Due to your genes, you may be more susceptible to issues such as gum disease no matter how well you take care of your teeth.

• Tooth Brushing

Another cause of receding gumlines is harsh tooth brushing. If you brush your teeth too hard or the wrong way, it can adversely affect your gums.

• Lack of Dental Care

If you do not floss, brush, and care for your teeth regularly, you can end up with a lot of oral problems, one of which is receding gumlines.

• Hormones

This is truer in women than it is in men, but when a woman’s hormones fluctuate, it can result in gums becoming more sensitive and vulnerable.

• Tobacco Usage

Those who regularly use tobacco are more at-risk for oral health problems than those who do not. Tobacco can cause sticky plaque to build on your teeth that is difficult to clean off.

Treatment Options For Receding Gums

There are not a lot of things that you can do for receding gums on your own, but there are some treatment options that you can seek out. Below are some of the different forms of treatment that you can get for your receding gumlines:

• Deep Cleaning

One option for fixing your gumline is getting a deep cleaning done by your dentist. This can help to clean the affected area and reduce your risk of getting infections.

• Antibiotics

If deep cleaning doesn’t work, you may be prescribed antibiotics to battle the infections and bacteria building up in your gumlines.

• Gum Surgery

If worse comes to worse, you may have to undergo surgery to repair your damaged gumlines.

Overall, if you are suffering from receding gumlines, regardless of the cause, you need to get it treated because it can lead to much larger issues. There is not much that you can do yourself to help with this issue, but there are medical options that you can seek out for assistance.
