The practice of oil pulling has been around since ancient times. As people look to more natural methods of caring for themselves, oil pulling has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years.

In the off chance you haven’t yet heard of it, you put oil in your mouth and swish it around. According to Healthline, there are a number of studies that have found it to kill bad bacteria in the mouth and reduce inflammation.

While it sounds strange, those in India have been using this method for ages. Research seems to point to it preventing bad breath and cavities, and help keep gums healthy. Many people are doing it now as an added way to keep up good oral health and keep gum disease away.

Oil pulling can be a bit messy so that’s where oil pulling tablets come in. The texture makes it easier to chew which allows for easier usage. Coconut oil is the most commonly used oil for oil pulling, and since it doesn’t exactly taste amazing on its own, it’s wise to add an essential oil to the mix.

Making Oil Pulling Tablets

If you want to try oil pulling tablets, coconut oil has great antimicrobial properties. An essential oil like peppermint will leave you feeling minty fresh though you can also choose clove essential oil which is good for oral health.

Simply take the purest form of coconut oil you can find, which is virgin, hand-pressed, and unrefined, and melt it in a sauce pan over low heat. Once it melts, put it in candy molds. You can make them smaller in size by limiting how much you fill the molds with. After pouring, add just one drop of your chosen essential oil, then let it cool and harden in your fridge.

Once they’ve solidified, you can put them in a mason jar in your fridge and then grab one to chew on every morning. The key is to chew it for about 10 minutes. Whatever you do, don’t swallow it when you’re finished. During oil pulling, whether you’re doing tablets or swishing oil, it draws out bacteria and you don’t want to send that down to your stomach so spit it out.

Where you spit matters as well. It can clog up your pipes so be sure to spit it into your trash. After that, go ahead and brush your teeth and see if you notice any positive changes in your mouth!
