Getting dental procedures done can often feel like a real chore, but the benefits of keeping up a great dental health routine following a visit to the dentist's office are immense. Whether you've just had a cavity filled or have just had a new crown placed, there are many ways to take care of your dental health after your latest appointment. Here are just a few great methods for keeping your smile bright and healthy.
Maintain The 2 X 2 Rule When Brushing
Undoubtedly, a good daily brushing routine remains one of the most important factors in maintaining good dental health over the long-term. When it comes to brushing, most dentists recommend the 2 X 2 or two-by-two rule: To wit, two minutes of brushing in the morning should be followed up with two minutes of brushing before bedtime. Usually, you shouldn't eat for 30 minutes before or after brushing: This "down time" will allow your teeth to return to their normal pH levels.
If you can budget for one, moreover, a great electric toothbrush can also be a wonderful addition to any quality dental care routine. Quality electric toothbrushes tend to be more effective in removing plaque, and in turn, lower plaque levels will likely lead to fewer cavities in the future.
Flossing The Right Way
Undoubtedly, flossing the right way is a very important step in any good oral health routine: By slightly curving the floss via pulling it against the teeth, individuals will be able to clean a greater area of each tooth. Pulling the floss gently up and down about three times on each side of each tooth can also remove bacteria and plaque from your teeth and keep your gums healthy. Flossing should be done about once per day or at least once per week.
While alcohol-based mouthwashes remain the norm at most grocery stores, individuals who have just completed a dental procedure may want to opt for an alcohol-free version of this trusty product. Because alcohol tends to dry out the mouth, many alcohol-based mouthwashes tend to allow bacteria to flourish on the back of the tongue, at the gum-line, and at the site of crowns, bridges, or implants. That can be a very counterproductive outcome after a dental procedure.
It can take a while to get the hang of a new dental routine, it is true, but finding the right method for creating a dental care routine that works for you can be a truly life-changing experience for the better. With the right dental care system in place, you'll be feeling great about your smile in no time. That is dental care at its best!
