Think of the human body as a complex machine. Like an engine is fuelled by petrol or diesel, our body is fuelled by food. This is a concept that was taught to us when we were kids. However, not a lot of us were told that just like a petrol engine can’t run on diesel, chances are that the wrong diet and food items are causing your body more harm than good.

The natural process of digestion helps our body break down the food we ingest to provide nutrients and energy. A diet should ideally contain natural foods such as fruits and vegetables. These foods are good for our digestive system. They can be broken down and absorbed easily. However, the average diet consists of many foods that can be categorized as “bad fuel” for the body.

Here are some examples of unnatural foods or “bad fuel”:

Processed Food

Processed foods are the enemy of your health and weight loss journey. Processed food contains refined carbohydrates along with refined sugar and syrups. These food items are difficult to break down and place a great amount of burden on the digestive system.

These foods have a high glycemic load. Glycemic load is a measure of blood sugar elevation in the body. This means that processed foods cause a rise in blood sugar, especially if they have a high sugar and fat content in the same package. They also have other adverse effects on the body. They cause metabolic chaos which leads to unhealthy fat storage.

Weight loss can easily be achieved if you cut down on processed food. Even if your primary health goal was to lose weight and become fit, avoiding processed food can help you go a long way.

Animal products

Animal meat is perceived as the best source of protein and included thoughtlessly in regular diets. However, animal products are highly acidic. They are also easily corroded inside the body and produce toxins. They are high in fat, low in fiber and water content.

Like milk spoils at room temperature, animal products undergo a process called putrefaction. Putrefaction leads to the formation of harmful and toxic byproducts such as ammonia, sulfides, histamine, tyramine, cadaverine, putrescine, indoles, skatoles, and purines.

These toxins do not occur in the body naturally and hence the elimination of these toxins is a difficult task. The accumulation of these toxins in the body causes digestive problems, inflammation, liver problems, and weight gain. Eliminating animal products leads to natural weight loss.

Overeating

A large number of people are emotional eaters. They tend to eat as a coping mechanism. This results in overeating or binging. Overeating causes a constant strain on the digestive system as it is constantly working to digest excessive food.

Overeating also causes a drain of energy as the digestive system utilizes most of the body’s energy to break down food. The digestive breaks are also important for metabolic balancing. Excess food tends to decompose and putrefy in the bowel, which releases toxins. The accumulation of toxins affects the digestive tract and metabolism, indirectly resulting in weight gain.

A quick way to lose weight or improve your health is to identify your eating patterns. You can also seek emotional support. It will help you take charge of your eating habits. Fatty foods and processed foods also result in the addition of toxic elements in the body and hamper your health and weight loss plan.

How do these foods adversely affect my health or weight loss programs?

Under normal circumstances, when the body is provided “good fuel”, the body is able to break down food, absorb nutrients and eliminate any metabolic waste produced in the process.

When we eat unnatural foods or “bad fuel”, the body’s digestive and excretory processes are not able to cope. This is because unnatural food causes a larger build-up of toxins. This is not a good idea if you want to lose weight.

Since the body is not able to eliminate toxins from the body, the waste accumulates in the body for a prolonged period of time. This condition is referred to as toxicosis. Toxicosis is a leading factor in obesity or weight gain because there is more water retention in the body to help dilute the toxins.

Processed foods, meat, dairy, and fatty foods often accumulate in the bowels in the form of sticky insoluble debris. Unless this debris is dealt with, all weight loss programs and weight loss diets will not provide effective results.

Why does a whole food plant-based diet assist in weight loss?

The whole food plant-based diet does not contain any “bad fuels.” A whole food plant-based diet contains food like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. These food items are rich in nutrients and easily digested by the body.

When your diet does not contain any of the unnatural foods, the body starts detoxifying. The body starts removing the toxic and morbid food matter stored in the body. Toxins are released from tissues and organs apart from the bowels. While the sudden weight loss may seem troublesome, it is completely natural and beneficial for you in the long run.

The body establishes a clean environment for you to thrive. During this detoxification process unhealthy toxins, tumors, and fats are broken down and discarded. This results in natural weight loss.

Following a whole food plant-based diet has many health benefits. It can help reduce the risk of cancer. It can help treat chronic conditions like diabetes, heart problems, etc. However, it can also help achieve smaller health goals such as weight loss and weight management - and happens to be the quickest way to lose weight naturally!
