Dealing with hair loss can be an extraordinarily stressful event in a person's life for a variety of reasons. Losing one's hair can be a visible symbol of the aging process and of saying goodbye to one's youth; it can represent uncomfortable truths about the transitoriness of life. We may feel less attractive or less confident when we first start to notice that we're losing our hair.

Making the Best of a New Look

So how can we stay confident when we're dealing with hair loss? For a start, we should recognize that very few people are as focused on our hair as we are.

Moreover, many of today's biggest stars have experienced hair loss and have come away from the experience with no problems: Indeed, actors Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Vin Diesel, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Jason Statham have all made baldness into a fashion statement. A clean-shaven head is their signature look. And they look fantastic!

Embracing Hair Loss

Stars like The Rock and Vin Diesel aren't alone in facing down hair loss. In recent years, bluegrass singer Molly Tuttle has written extensively about her experiences with alopecia and has even embraced her appearance in music videos. Crooners like Frank Sinatra embraced custom made wigs for decades.

To wit, we can be as confident as we desire to be about hair loss. Embracing the loss of one's hair can even improve our self-esteem: After all, if we can show the world that we can deal with the loss of our hair, we can demonstrate that we're prepared to take on any problem that comes our way.

Finding Your Sense of Inner Strength

Here are just a few quick ways to make yourself feel better about hair loss:

  • Read about famous people that you admire who have dealt with hair loss. Try emulating their look and sense of confidence. You'll feel better almost immediately.
  • Consider that many things in life are outside our control. Worrying about some problems does not help things!
  • Make your experience with hair loss an opportunity to create a new chapter in your life. Not all change is bad!

At the end of the day, how you think about hair loss will determine how comfortable you are with changes to your appearance. If you can take your new look in stride, you might just end up being a healthier and happier person in the bargain. Although it may not seem like it now, this could be a positive first step towards a new life and a new you!
