Various health-related studies have proven that nutrients play a big role in our good eye health. Eating cabbage, spinach, carrots, blueberries, apricots and oily fishes like salmon and tuna gives nourishment to the eyes. They also protect eyes from age-related eye disorders like cataracts and macular degeneration. Moreover, balanced food helps you keep weight under control reducing the chances of developing diabetes, a leading cause of blindness. Eggs, nuts and citrus fruits are also recommended. In addition, drinking a lot of water is vital for eye health. Last but not least you need to stay away from processed food and sugary drinks to help keep your eyes fresh and healthy.

Wear Sunglasses To Protect Eyes

In spite of the fact that you are around 93 million miles away from the sun, ultraviolet rays (UV) still pose serious health threats for you and especially for your eyes. Sunglasses help protect your eyes from radiation in the ultraviolet range. You should wear sunglasses because they can block both UVA and UVB rays.

Quit Smoking For Better Vision

According to many health-related studies, smoking flares up cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by directly affecting the optic nerve. The combination of nicotine and carbon monoxide in cigarettes also accelerates the risk of smudging the color pattern in the retina as it shrinks antioxidant levels and lowers blood flow around the eye. Studies have shown that smokers suffered 47% greater risk of developing AMD than non-smokers.

Visit Your Eye Doctor Regularly

It is recommended to have an eye checkup once a year. A regular visit to an optometrist or ophthalmologist can help you diagnose eye diseases, which do not have any apparent symptoms such as glaucoma in their initial phases.

Healthy Lifestyle

A daily workout in a gym or a regular walk can serve the best for your eye health. A sound sleep is also indispensable for eye health as it allows your eyes to take rest and recover. An inadequate sleep can weaken your eye performance. Let your eyes relax by taking a 10 minute rest after every hour during reading or working on a computer.

Take A Multivitamin

Some research studies have suggested that daily consumption of antioxidant vitamins and zinc can elude ARMD-associated and age-related macular degeneration vision loss. Other studies have discovered that women who intake vitamin C regularly are 77% less likely to develop initial cataracts than those who do not take vitamin C.

Eye Exercise

Just like other body parts, our eyes need some exercise as well. Sensibility to light, blurred vision and eyestrain are vision problems that can be cured with the help of eye exercises. Here are few common eye exercises that can improve eye health:

Rolling Eyes

Look up at your forehead and then make one complete clockwise movement of your eyeball - completing a circle. Do this 10 times clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Concentration

Strengthening your eye focus is another extremely healthy eye exercise. You can do this by picking up a pen or any similar object in your hand and then straightening your arm. Focusing on the pens tip, slowly bring it close to your nose at a distance of six inches away and then move it back. Repeat this process 10 times.

Massage

Massage always creates a pleasant feeling for your eyes and it can be done by using your thumb knuckles. Eye temples can be massaged in small round loops - 20 times each one a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction - can make your eyes feel quite fresh.
