Taking steps to boost your immune system’s fighting power can help you defend yourself against a virus. Antibiotics are used to help your body take on bacterial infections.

When it comes to combating viral infections, however, it’s all up to your immune system. What you do to proactively keep your immune system strong and how you take action at the first sign of an illness can stave it off altogether or lessen the severity and duration of your symptoms.

Here are some effective ways to help your immune system fight a virus.

Get Plenty Of Rest To Fight A Virus

Your body needs sleep in order to fight off an infection. While you put energy demands on your body throughout the day with a variety of activities such as moving and digesting food, your body isn’t able to focus its energy towards the immune system.

While your body is at rest, energy can be channeled to the immune system so that it can fight at its optimal strength. Studies have shown that your immune system’s T-cells which are responsible for attacking the cells of invading organisms are better able to attach themselves to other cells at night, which makes them fight more effectively.

If you don’t get enough sleep, stress hormones may impede T-cell’s fighting power. Ultimately, getting at least seven or eight hours of sleep can strengthen your immune system.

Lower Your Stress To Fight A Virus

Your body’s reaction to stress can be extremely negative. You may feel sore or fatigued, and you may have difficulty sleeping.

The toxic effect of stress can disrupt your immune system and make it harder for you to beat a virus. Stress hormones’ interference with T-cell function combined with energy levels that are thrown off balance can make fighting infection much more strenuous on the immune system than it needs to be.

Take steps to lower your stress levels to strengthen your immune system and improve your overall health.

Take An Immunity-Boosting Digestive Supplement To Fight A Virus

Digestive function plays a big role in supporting your immune system. A green superfood powder that’s made from all-natural or organic materials and contains probiotics and digestive enzymes can keep your digestive system working its best.

The supplement’s vitamins and minerals will support your immune system while also supporting your gut health. In addition, its antioxidants can fight against free radicals that could upset your digestive system or make you more vulnerable to viral infection.

Stay Hydrated To Fight A Virus

Drinking plenty of fluids can help you fight infections in several ways. It will keep the membranes in your nasal passage and upper respiratory area hydrated so invading viruses won’t be able to cling to them easily.

If you’re actively fighting infection, drinking can replace fluids that are lost to congestion or gastrointestinal symptoms. In addition, it will help improve cardiovascular activity to distribute oxygen throughout the body and possibly mitigate your symptoms.

Gargle To Fight A Virus

Some evidence suggests that gargling can make you less susceptible to upper respiratory infections. A study with participants who gargled with only water found that they were less likely to develop upper respiratory infections than the study participants who did not gargle.

One possible reason is that the act of gargling washed away germs that were collecting in people’s throats. Gargling with salt water has been shown to be similarly advantageous and may help alleviate a sore throat.

Get Vaccinated To Fight A Virus

It’s important to get every available vaccine to treat common viruses. For example, getting a flu vaccine every year will help your body fight the flu virus and spare you from an extremely unpleasant illness.

Likewise, you should talk to your doctor about any other vaccines that are available for illnesses that you have never contracted such as chicken pox, HPV, and shingles. These vaccines give your immune system a winning edge in fighting off these potentially serious viruses.

Fortifying your immune system with supplements, sleep, and hydration can help you fight off a virus. In addition, staying up to date with vaccines can be a determinative factor in your body’s fighting power.
