Recovering after an illness or injury can be a long and tedious road. You may want to look at supportive modalities and alternative health treatments to get relief from bothersome symptoms and heal your entire being. Natural healing remedies can be very effective for some conditions.
It's important that you work with your doctor and tell him or her of all the remedies you are using to ensure there are no complications with your medications or other therapies. Here are some of the most popular natural methods that deliver results.
Acupuncture
A popular traditional Chinese medicine technique is acupuncture. This involves a practitioner placing thin needles in various locations on your body to stimulate your flow of energy and relieve blockages.
Acupuncture can give you relief from a number of symptoms and illnesses. Use it to treat allergies and headaches or combat uncomfortable side effects of a brain injury, such as nausea.
Massage
A deeply relaxing and therapeutic technique is massage. Getting a massage will relax your muscles, ease your stress, and stimulate your blood flow. This type of bodywork can also give you pain relief and even improve your immunity.
Aromatherapy
The next time you are experiencing a headache or find that you can't sleep, reach for an essential oil. The aromatherapy benefits of these oils can be used to help treat almost any symptom or condition. Add a few drops of oil to a room diffuser to breathe it in or dilute it in oil and apply directly to your skin.
Qigong
Qigong is a system of body movements that combine with a focus on the breath to provide support of the body and the mind. It can strengthen your entire body and bring it back into balance. Find relief from physical symptoms and mental anguish with this gentle practice.
Diet and Supplements
The foods that you put into your body have a big impact on your health. Even if you are in good general shape, eating poorly can make you feel tired and sickly. Pay attention to your diet, especially when you are healing. Try to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Consume whole foods whenever possible in place of processed meals.
You can also add a supplement to your diet to target gaps in your nutrition or support your health. The omega-3s in fish oil and the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric are especially helpful.
Aquatic Therapy
Part of recovery and continued good health is moving your body. However, sometimes you may be dealing with physical limitations that make exercising difficult. For a workout that is easier on your body, try aquatic therapy.
Doing movements in a warm pool helps you to build strength and regain balance and posture. The water supports your body, making you lighter and the movements easier as you recover.
Meditation
A body and mind healing modality that everyone can benefit from is meditation. This is the act of learning to be quiet and focus on the present moment while clearing your mind of all thoughts. Meditation is a fabulous way to reduce stress and find inner peace. You will have better self-awareness as well.
Reiki
Energy healing is gaining in popularity as a tool to heal the body, mind, and spirit. The modality focuses on a practitioner laying hands on or above your body to channel universal life energy that targets the needs of the individual. Many hospitals and medical facilities are starting to recognize the benefits of Reiki and support its use as a complementary therapy.
EFT
The Emotional Freedom Technique focuses on stimulating acupressure points by strategically tapping on a series of targeted areas on the hand, face, chest, and under the arm.
You pair the tapping with speaking statements about your problem that work on self-acceptance and releasing the issue. EFT has been proven effective for stress, anxiety, PTSD, and even pain relief.
Give one or more of these natural wellness therapies a try, whether alone or in conjunction with more traditional treatments. You may notice profound relief or speed up your healing.
