The body of a human being, just like any other living organism, undergoes wear and tear as years go by. As a result several diseases and conditions are associated with old age. Terminal conditions such as cancer, diabetes, stroke, and heart diseases are highly likely to affect you at old age.

Here are some of the screenings you should undergo to diagnose and start early treatment if possible.

Colonoscopy

It’s a type of screening that uses a colonoscope to examine the colon and intestine for cancerous growth or polyps. The gadget is lighted and fitted with a small camera. It is one of the most recommended screenings since colon cancer detected at a late stage is not manageable and may be fatal.

If the doctor sights the harmful growths during the screening, they may act first and remove them. There are facilities like Gastro Health with expertise in screenings that offer fast-tracking colonoscopy, which is usually non-prior to consultation. The screening can also help to diagnose other problems in the bowel and abdomen.

Blood Pressure Check

One in three adults approaching the age of 50 is at higher risk of high blood pressure hence the need to do regular medical tests. It's commonly known as hypertension. This condition can result in other health issues such as stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and kidney failure. Therefore, it is recommended that this screening is carried out frequently since the condition is fully manageable if there is anything out of the normal.

Vision Exam

Growing old comes with health issues that may affect your vision. The need for a regular eye check is key to staying ahead of any complications that may arise. Most eye problems are manageable and can be solved by medical glasses or prescriptions by the doctor.

Mammogram and Prostate Tests

It's a type of test that is done on women to diagnose breast cancer. Women above 40 years should take a regular test each year since they are at a high risk of breast cancer. Men approaching 50 should also be subject to routine prostate tests.

Prostate cancer attacks the prostate glands in males. If identified earlier through screenings, the patient would undergo therapy, which then helps remove the cancerous cells and makes the condition manageable like breast cancer.

Adults over the age of 40 are at health risk for several diseases and should take it seriously to do these medical tests. They should also stick to a healthy lifestyle integrating fitness and diet.
