While most people may have an occasional night where they don't sleep very well, others find this is a regular occurrence. If you are someone who always feels tired from not getting a restful night's sleep, it is possible a health condition you may have could be contributing greatly to your problem.
If you are tired of being tired and want to know what is causing your sleep problems, here are four common health conditions that have negative impacts on sleep.
Diabetes
If you are a diabetic, your sleep likely gets interrupted frequently due to such things as fluctuations in your blood sugar, night sweats, and having to get up to urinate several times overnight. To help overcome this problem, you should work with an endocrinologist to stabilize your blood sugar levels, which in turn can help you to get a better quality of sleep.
Sleep Apnea
A health condition many people don't even realize they have, sleep apnea involves you having multiple episodes at night where your breathing pauses for a few seconds or perhaps longer. As a result, you continue waking up each day wondering why you are so tired.
If you suspect sleep apnea may be the cause, you should talk to your doctor and perhaps visit a sleep center to find out more about how CPAP machines may be the answer for you at night.
Arthritis
Should you suffer from arthritis, this health condition will almost certainly impact your sleep. Depending on which parts of your body are arthritic, you may be forced to change positions multiple times during the night to get comfortable and relieve your pain.
As for how you can get relief, you can visit your doctor and possibly be prescribed new medications, and also perhaps invest in a sleep system that offers a specialized mattress that will provide more personalized comfort.
Heartburn
Finally, heartburn or acid reflux disease can make it seem almost impossible to get a good night's sleep. With these conditions, acidic juice from your stomach finds its way back into your esophagus, resulting in a burning sensation.
Unfortunately, lying down only makes this problem worse. As for treatment, antacids or certain prescription medications may help, as will avoiding alcohol, coffee, and large meals at least two hours prior to going to bed.
Though dealing with each of these health conditions can be frustrating for you, speaking to your doctor may help you learn of new treatment options that can bring you the relief and rest you seek.
