Confidence is an essential part of life. It means having trust in yourself and your abilities. With good self-confidence, you are better able to handle life's challenges and move forward, even when things aren't going your way. Learn how to boost your confidence in natural ways to improve your happiness and quality of life.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated liquids that are made from the essence of plants. They are a wonderful tool to improve mood, reduce uncomfortable physical symptoms, and even keep your home clean.

Quality essential oils, such as those from Young Living, a company started by D Gary Young, are simple to use and remarkable remedies. You can practice aromatherapy every day to improve both your environment and your physical and mental health.

Citrus oils are especially good for elevating your confidence. They naturally put you in a better mood, clear your mind of negativity, and help you to embrace your inner strength. They are capable of relieving tension and stress, changing your outlook for the better.

Your sense of smell is linked to messages sent to the brain. They can help to activate the limbic system, which is essential to your emotional regulation. Aromatherapy may also influence the hypothalamus that is responsible for creating chemicals such as serotonin that makes you feel good.

Use a single essential oil or create a blend of several of your favorites for an instant confidence boost. There are many ways to use your essential oils:

  • Place a few drops in a diffuser
  • Mix with a carrier oil and apply directly to your skin
  • Add to a warm bath
  • Place several drops in a bottle along with water to make a refreshing room spray
  • Use in a portable diffuser that you hang in your car or even wear as jewelry

Keep in mind that essential oils are very strong and powerful. Use them only as directed. It's best to dilute the oil in weaker concentrations until you discover what strength is best for you.

Meditation

A daily meditation practice can work wonders for your self-confidence. Meditation teaches you how to be present in the moment. You learn to become more self-aware and to observe your thoughts without judgment.

During meditation, you can choose to sit quietly and focus on your breath, listen to soothing music, repeat a mantra, or listen to a guided meditation that will walk you through an exercise step by step. The type of meditation that works best for you may not work for others. Try out all the options available to discover which one resonates with you.

Meditation will help you to learn mindfulness. When you are more present throughout your day, you are better equipped to handle stresses and remain on task without giving in to the worry. This is fantastic for work and in your personal life.

Becoming more self-aware through meditation allows you to let go of the beliefs that others hold about you and for you. You can then learn to reconnect with your real self and stop comparing yourself to others.

Getting in touch with who you are enables you to develop your confidence and have more faith in your own abilities. This is the first step in learning to trust your own judgment and increase your self-worth.

When you have greater confidence in yourself, you perform better at work and have more fulfilling relationships. You stop needing validation from others outside yourself. Finding your inner strength allows you to accomplish great things without fear of failure or harsh criticism from anyone else.

Meditation is a wonderful method to quiet your mind and start to eliminate all the mental clutter. You will get more clarity when you learn to observe a situation for what it is, instead of jumping to conclusions and rushing in too soon with extreme behaviors or preconceived notions.

You can benefit from meditation very quickly, as you should start to feel more relaxed and at peace as soon as you start your practice. Many people have difficulty clearing their minds at first. This is normal and nothing to worry about. If a thought enters your mind, try to simply let it pass through without giving it a lot of attention. It becomes easier with practice.

If it is too hard to focus on your meditation in silence, try some music or a guided meditation. Sometimes it helps to listen to someone else’s voice guide you through the steps of relaxing since you have something to put your attention on.

Another technique is to choose a focal point to concentrate on to try and prevent your mind from wandering. Sometimes, the act of sitting still is problematic for some people. Don’t let this get in the way of your meditation. If you like to be more active, you can still practice meditation while in motion.

Taking a walk, especially in nature, is an amazing way to meditate. Another is by doing yoga. By doing some form of exercise during your meditation, you increase the physical and mental benefits even further.

You don’t need to meditate for hours on end to see results. Even a few minutes each day can be beneficial. If you find that you are struggling when you first begin, limit your time to five minutes. You can do this both in the morning and the evening.

Morning meditations are great for helping you center yourself and prepare for the day ahead. Evening meditations let you unwind and release any stress and tension. As the practice becomes easy and comfortable for you, increase the time you spend meditating.

When done on a consistent basis, meditation not only drastically reduces your stress levels and increases your confidence, but it can even start to improve some physical conditions like high blood pressure.

Choose the type of practice that works best for you and your needs and personality. Stick with it and eventually it will become a habit and a part of your day that you look forward to.

Affirmations

Another way that you can increase your confidence levels in yourself is through positive self-talk and affirmations. Take a moment to observe your thoughts. How do you communicate with yourself? What does your inner voice sound like?

Oftentimes, you may find that you are highly critical and harsh with the comments you direct toward yourself. In fact, many people are much harder on themselves than they would ever dream to be to anyone else.

Negative thoughts about yourself, especially those that crop up on a regular basis, begin to turn into beliefs if they aren’t changed. Perhaps you berate yourself for making a mistake at work or internally chastise yourself over a thoughtless comment toward a loved one.

Self-awareness and responsibility for your own actions are essential to learning to be better but punishing yourself for mistakes will get you nowhere. Over time, you may start to identify with these false perceptions.

Remember that you are deserving of kindness from yourself as well. Treat yourself gently and start to pay attention to all the thoughts that you have. When you catch yourself being negative, stop the thought and try to rephrase it in a positive way. Affirmations are an excellent tool for this.

The idea of an affirmation is to create a positive statement that you identify with and believe in. You recite these each day, silently or aloud, to overcome your doubts and negative beliefs that you are telling yourself.

With enough repetition, you will start to firmly believe the statements you tell yourself. Choosing to begin using affirmations can have a huge impact on your life and how you look at yourself.

Create a few statements that rephrase your fears into positivity. Use the present tense to form phrases that begin with “I am” “I have” or “I believe.” Identify your goals in life and your strengths. Use these as a basis to create your affirmations. If it feels strange to make such strong positive statements about yourself after possibly years of negative self-talk, start small.

It’s essential that you are able to believe in your affirmations. Try to make the affirmation more general and be gentle with “I am starting to” followed by the belief you want to instill in yourself. As you become more confident, you can reword your statements.

Affirmations will help you to change your story and create the life that you really want while learning to be more confident and happy with who you are now. You can recite your affirmations during your morning commute or even incorporate movement to make them stronger.

Take a walk and repeat your affirmations to yourself. The forward motion of your steps will reinforce that you are leaving the old negativity behind and moving into the future with your newfound sense of self and elevated confidence.

Try implementing these techniques into your daily routine and observe the results that you get. It may seem awkward to devote part of your day to self-care if this is something you are unused to but the benefits are nothing short of amazing. In a short time, you can start to look at yourself differently, building confidence and treating yourself kindlier.
