While many people know what plaque is and battle it every day of their lives, many people do not know what tartar is or how to deal with it. Plaque and tartar can both build up on your teeth and become a problem, but there are some natural methods to battle these pesky things.

Tartar is essential bacteria in the mouth that has mixed with byproducts of food to produce a sticky fold. This film gets stuck on your teeth and can actually damage the enamel. If you have too much tartar and plaque, it can also lead to cavities.

Below are seven natural methods to rid yourself of tartar and plaque from home:

  1. Brush At Least Twice a Day

To protect your teeth, it is recommended that you brush at least twice a day for at least two minutes each time. If you only brush your teeth for 30 seconds, you will not be able to get all of the buildup off of your teeth.

  1. Use An Electric Toothbrush

It has been shown that an electric toothbrush can rid your teeth of plaque and buildup at a much better rate than manual toothbrushes can. Make sure that they are ADA approved, however.

  1. Use Toothpaste

Toothpaste, especially those that are for tartar-control, can help to repair any enamel damage that has already been caused. It will repair the damage while also fighting against further buildup and bacteria.

  1. Don’t Forget To Floss

Flossing is a step that is so important for removing plaque and tartar buildup that is stuck between your teeth. Do not forget to floss ever!

  1. Use A Mouthwash Every Day

Using an antiseptic mouthwash daily can help to kill any bacteria that causes plaque in the first place.

  1. Be Careful What You Eat

Bacteria in your mouth that contributes to plaque and tartar is normally caused by foods that are high in sugar and/or starch. These can release acids that are harmful for your teeth and mouth, so try to avoid them in your diet.

  1. Do Not Smoke

Smoking or other uses of tobacco can contribute to a greater buildup of tartar in the mouth and can also lead to more serious health issues for your mouth.

Overall, tartar and plaque are both serious pains when it comes to teeth and mouth health. However, people often overlook them or don’t know how to get rid of them. Getting rid of plaque and tartar buildup is important because it can cause damage to the enamel as well as cause permanent cavities.

By following the simple tips and tricks above that require slight changes to your daily routine, you can have healthier teeth in no time. There is no more need to battle that film and plaque and be embarrassed of your teeth. It is a simple task: make the little changes today and see the big difference tomorrow!
