While diabetes and tooth health may seem like two different issues, they can actually become closely connected over time. This is due to the fact that those with bad diabetes are often at a much higher risk of having dental problems.

Because diabetes can reduce the amount of blood supply to certain areas in the body, those with diabetes run a higher risk of gum infections. On top of that, if you suffer from high blood pressure, you may also suffer from dry mouth or worsen the symptoms of gum disease. To make matters worse, the lesser amount of saliva you have, the more plaque buildup there will be. However, with that being said, if you take care of yourself and your blood sugar levels, you can avoid all of the tooth health problems that may arise before they even begin.

The Symptoms Of Tooth Health Problems

If you know that you suffer from diabetes and are wondering if it may be affecting your gum or tooth health, these are the most common symptoms to look out for:

  2. Brush And Floss Every Day: Brushing your teeth and flossing at least twice a day is crucial. This will help to clear your teeth of any plaque buildup and keep you smile white and vibrant.
  3. Use An Antiseptic Mouthwash: Using an antiseptic mouthwash can help to clear your mouth of all of the bacteria and nasty germs that can build up and damage your teeth and gums. Make sure to use an antiseptic mouthwash every day.
  4. Go To The Dentist Regularly: Going to the dentist and getting a checkup at least every six months is crucial. Make sure that you tell your dentist that you have diabetes so that they can be on the lookout for any of the common symptoms.
  5. Take Care of Yourself: Aside from taking care of your teeth, you also must take care of your blood sugar. Keep your blood sugar levels happy and healthy so that you avoid all of the side effects.
