4 Common Causes Of Headaches And How To Treat Them

Because some headaches are more common than others, the cause can be narrowed down to specific triggers and actions. Therefore, for those of you who may be suffering from TMJ headaches during certain times, your physicians may link these headaches to malfunctioning joint problems (i.e. jaws and cheeks), particularly to the hinges that connect the jaw to the skull. Some of the common symptoms include jaw and facial pain, clicking noise in the jaw and changes in the bite

To minimize the pain, you may be prescribed painkillers, like aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen. You may also need to make the quality of lifestyle changes like performing therapeutic exercises that relieve TMJ pain.

Secondary Headaches

Unlike tension headaches, this type of headache can be caused by several different things. From severe headaches that are caused by an injury to the head to a headache that can be linked to caffeine withdrawal, these headaches may also be called rebound headaches. The symptoms that some people suffer from include sleep disturbance, nausea and vomiting, and an increased heart rate.

Unlike other types of headache treatments, the only way to stop the addiction in rebound headaches is completely to stop all medication, even if this means weaning yourself off.

Sinus Headaches

Sinus headaches are often caused by allergies and infections in the sinus cavities, and they can be very severe based on inflammation in this area. The symptoms that some people suffer from include light and sound sensitivities, fever, blocked nose, and nausea.

After a doctor diagnoses a sinus infection, they may prescribe OTC pain killers, nasal decongestants and antibiotics based on the case.

Menstrual Headaches

Menstrual headaches are often caused by hormonal changes in women and are linked to before or after a menstrual period. The symptoms that some people suffer from include severe migraines and nausea.

After a doctor diagnoses these kinds of medical problems, they may prescribe hormonal therapy, trispan or NSAID to assist with correcting the hormonal imbalance and the headache pain that women experience.

Today, people are suffering from different types of common headaches for a variety of reasons including severe migraines. To minimize the headache pain that patients suffer from, physicians are now prescribing treatment based on their diagnosis.
