In the past, a small number of people were interested in improving the appearance of their teeth. More and more people now take cosmetic treatments to beautify their teeth. Depending on the results you want to achieve, dentists have different options to deliver the desired results. Cosmetic dentistry is truly touching the heights of perfection these days.

Teeth Whitening

Our teeth often become discolored and stained due to the food we eat. Some food items, medications, beverages, and cigarettes are famous for changing the color of teeth. In a teeth whitening treatment, a dentist uses a chemical process to bleach the teeth.

If a person takes this treatment in the office, one or two visits are enough to finish the procedure. The teeth can become discolored again if the person does not stop eating those items or does not clean the teeth properly. Routine dental care is the key to bright and white teeth.

Bonding

The bonding technique is designed to enhance the appearance of the teeth that have excess space between them. The bonding treatment can also help improve the look of cracked, chipped, broken or stained teeth.

To perform this procedure, dentists normally use bonding materials to fill small cavities or to protect the exposed root of a tooth. One office visit may be enough to perform it. The bonding can last for several years – sometimes longer than other types of dental restoration.

Veneers

Veneers are custom shells made of porcelain or other material. They are attached on the front sides of the teeth to enhance the appearance. They last longer than bonding and deliver a perfect smile. Types of teeth that can be improved include those that are:

  • Poorly shaped
  • Slightly crooked
  • Permanently stained
  • Have spaces between them
  • Have become chipped or worn

Crowns

Also known as caps, crowns fully cover a tooth to protect and shape it up. A crown can be used for the following purposes:

  • To protect a tooth
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To restore a broken or worn tooth
  • To cover a tooth with a large filling
  • To cover a misshaped or discolored tooth
  • To cover a tooth that's had a root canal procedure

Crowns are mostly made of metal, ceramic materials, porcelain fused to metal or resin. Typically, a dentist measures the size of the required crown and has a crown made.

Enamel Shaping And Contouring

In this treatment, the dental enamel is removed and contoured to improve the look of the teeth. The enamel shaping and contouring technique is often combined with the bonding treatment. The shape, length, and position of the teeth can be corrected using it. For example, it can fix:

  • Minor bite problems
  • Irregular and chipped teeth
  • Overlapping or crooked teeth

Braces

Braces are used to align and straighten the teeth, and people of all ages can benefit from them. Braces improve the look of teeth that are crooked or crowded, and different types of braces are available. Dentists use braces to:

  • Join disorders
  • Correct jaw positioning
  • Improve irregular bite

Bridges

Bridges, also known as fixed partial dentures, can be used to replace a missing tooth with an artificial one. Any of the following can be used to prepare bridges:

  • Gold
  • Alloys
  • Porcelain
  • Combination

The foundation of the bridge plays an important role in defining the success of the crowns. Daily oral hygiene must be followed to keep them in good condition.

Implants

Dental implants are an alternative to dental bridges. It is a reliable and durable technique to implant a new tooth in place of a lost tooth, and delivers a tooth that lasts for a lifetime. A dental implant consists of three parts:

  • Titanium Metal: It fuses to the jawbone.
  • An Abutment: It fits over the implant.
  • The Crown: It has a tooth-like appearance.

Other Periodontal Plastic Procedures

There are other options to get a beautiful smile. The following techniques are often used by dentists for a smile makeover:

  • Exposed roots
  • An uneven gum line
  • Teeth that look too short or too long
  • Indentations in your gums or jawbone
