You hear about deep dental cleanings, but what truly are they? Do you really need them in order for your teeth to be healthy and strong? The answer is yes. Deep dental cleanings help to get rid of all the stuff a normal toothbrush can’t. Once this stuff is off of your teeth, you run a lower chance of decay, cavities, and discoloration.

What Are Deep Dental Cleanings?

Now that you know that deep dental cleanings are crucial, what really are they? Why are they so important?

A deep dental cleaning, otherwise known as gum therapy, is a treatment done by your dentist. This treatment works to get to the root of your teeth and down into your gums to get rid of all of the plaque that may hurt your tooth health.

Similar to a normal and routine dental cleaning, your dentist will work to clean off your teeth, gum lines, and sides of your teeth. However, with a deep dental cleaning, they will go even deeper in order to rid your teeth of the tartar buildup that can be found at the root of your tooth.

This may not be completed in just one visit. Instead, it may take a few visits to the dentist in order to get all parts of your teeth.

Why Do I Need A Deep Dental Cleaning?

After learning what a deep dental cleaning is, you may be wondering why you need one if they are so similar to normal cleanings. The difference lies in that those pockets that aren’t targeted in normal cleanings can lead to gingivitis or periodontal disease if they are not caught in time.

If you feel that you are at risk for either of the diseases mentioned above, then you are the ideal candidate for deep dental cleanings. It will help to both stop and prevent the growth of these problems by removing the detrimental buildup and tartar that hide in the pockets of your gums.

Nearly half of all Americans suffer from some sort of gum disease, so even if you feel that you are not at risk, you may be without even knowing it. Because of this, it is highly recommended that everyone get their deep dental cleanings done rather than avoiding them. They are truly important for your tooth and gum health.

Overall, while you may get regular dental cleanings, I am sure that you have heard the term deep dental cleaning but didn’t think much of it. However, it is something that you should think of. A deep dental cleaning targets all of those areas in your mouth that are often missed in normal cleanings.

Targeting these areas will reduce your risk of getting gum disease, so it will keep your mouth happy and healthy for the long run. Deep dental cleanings are important and helpful for everyone, so it is about time that you stopped avoiding them and scheduled one for yourself today.
