In the past, missing teeth and those which were rotted got replaced by dentures. Many people consider dentures a very false looking alternative to regular teeth. Here are five of the biggest reasons that people are choosing to replace dentures with dental implants.

They Look Real

If you have grandparents who wear dentures, you can likely tell which teeth are part of their denture set and which ones are their real teeth. When a patient has implants installed, it’s very difficult to tell them apart from the existing, healthy teeth in the mouth. People want to have real looking implants instead of settle for false looking dentures.

Longer Lasting

A quick look at the lifespan of dentures versus implants and you’ll notice why most people prefer the latter. Dentures last for about five to seven years. You’ll need to get them replaced often as your bite will change over time. With implants, they can last you for up to 25 years. That’s about five times the lifespan of dentures.

Less Maintenance

Having dentures requires that you glue them in and clean out from underneath the denture plate regularly. With dental implants, you don’t have to do anything that you wouldn’t do with your normal teeth. Regular brushing in the morning and evening is enough to maintain implants.

They Feel More Natural

When you have dentures, you have false teeth installed on a denture plate. This plate gets glued over your existing gums. When you get implants, each tooth is attached to its own rod and the rod is set within the jawbone. Therefore, implants tend to feel more like your natural teeth. People find them more comfortable to chew with than traditional dentures.

Improved Bone And Facial Features

Since implants are installed via a rod into the jawbone, they provide the necessary support for your bite. This helps to keep your jawbone from deteriorating after a tooth is removed from the gum. With dentures, there is nothing inserted into the jawbone. The dentures sit over the top of it. This will result in bone deterioration over time as there is no tooth tissue there or a rod to support your bite.

The dental industry has come out with many new updates to traditional procedures. Dental implants are one of these updated alternatives that replace the need for dentures. As more and more patients discover the benefits listed out above, they prefer to have implants installed over traditional dentures.
