If you suffer from dry skin, it can be difficult to manage the condition naturally. However, there are many ways to take care of dry skin without turning to products that contain harsh chemicals and potentially dangerous ingredients. Here are some tips for keeping dry skin at bay naturally.
Use A Homemade Moisturizer
Coconut oil is a wonderful ingredient that is often found in the home, and has a variety of uses, including moisturizing your skin effectively. Combine it with tea tree oil and vitamin E oil for an effective homemade moisturizer that also smells good on your skin. If the weather is colder and your coconut oil is more chunky rather than smooth, you can use a hand mixer to blend the ingredients together. Simply put it in a resealable container and use it twice a day or as needed to keep your skin feeling hydrated and healthy, without worrying about the ingredients in the formula.
Eat More Fish
Fish oil is a powerhouse supplement for keeping skin looking and feeling its best. Whether it is through a fish oil capsule on a daily basis or simply consuming more fatty fish, the overall benefits for your skin are undeniable. Some examples of fish that will provide the most oil and benefits are salmon, tuna, mackerel and trout, all of which are relatively cheap and can be purchased at your local supermarket or grocery store. Fish also has the added benefit of improving your heart health, and improving your nails and hair along with your skin, and is generally more nutrient dense than other types of meat.
Try Essential Oils
Essential oils are a popular method for treating common conditions, such as dry and flaking skin. For instance, copaiba oil is often used in lotion and makeup products because of the benefits it presents to the skin. It is incredibly easy to mix essential oils in with products you are already using to reap the rewards of what these oils have to offer. You can also apply them to the skin topically when they are safely diluted with a carrier oil, such as vegetable or olive oil. Along with helping your skin feel great, the unique scent of copaiba oil also has a calming effect and, when taken internally, can help restore function of the nervous system.
Drink More Water
Although your skin's capability to retain moisture is primarily due to genetics and the environment that you live in, staying hydrated can provide more moisture and keep your skin feeling less dry. Although some studies have shown that drinking water does not directly have an impact on the skin, it facilitates the hydration of skin cells, as well as supports the functions of the body that keep skin buoyant and firm. Combining drinking the recommended amount of water every day with a regular moisturizer is one of the best regimens to combat dry skin.
Do An Oatmeal Soak
While it may seem a bit unconventional, dipping into an oatmeal bath can do wonders to help soothe skin that is dry, cracked, peeling, and irritated. The best solution is blending the dry oatmeal into a powder, testing it to see if it retains water, and then pouring it into a bathtub full of warm water. While you are soaking in the oatmeal bath, you can also gently massage it into your skin to reap the most benefit. Oatmeal also prevents itching and irritation temporarily after your bath is over, so if you are having problems sleeping at night due to skin conditions, you can ease the pain or itchiness and get a good night's sleep.
Dry skin can be incredibly frustrating to deal with, especially during the time of year when the weather is at its coldest. However, with these tricks, you can be sure to have hydrated skin without having to stress about the chemicals and ingredients in your skincare products.
