Just as there are plants and herbs that have been longstanding and consistently used in our society for centuries, there are others that are lesser known and have stopped growing in certain climates and areas. Much like some animals, plants can suffer from a level of extinction and disappear in specific climates as well.

This was definitely the case with sea rocket, a plant that is also known as cakile maritima. To understand the trajectory of this plant, the type it was and the lifespan it's had, uncovering its history is vastly important.

Mustard Family

Sea rocket was a plant originally found off the coast of Finland. In places where it still sparsely remains, beaches are typically nearby. This is because the salt of the sea helps to nourish the plant and it is closely tied to other sea plants like seaweed.

It has ribbon-like strands that are even reminiscent of seaweed. Since it was first discovered, it has spread to various parts of the south and east though it has definitely gone the way of being much more rare than other plants like it. A part of the mustard family, this plant has similar functions and properties that are often seen in the seed of a mustard.

Perennial Plant

Typically this plant grows in mounds and only really blooms during the summer months. Sometimes it also sprouts flowers which are typically a magenta or purple color. Sometimes the flowers also seem to take on a white color as well. It is a perennial plant and also considered to be a part of the cruciferious family.

The leaves on the plant are typically fleshy. The plant itself looks similar to the wild radish. The plant carries a high amount of vitamin C within. It can be used for cooking. The seed also contains a fatty oil.

Skin Care

Sea rocket is a great element to add to your skin care regimen as the skin needs fatty acids and vitamin C. After vitamin E, C is the next most imperative vitamin that the skin needs and craves. It provides the skin with an all-over even tone and helps with dark spots and the appearance of drab skin.

You can add a couple of drops of sea rocket seed oil into your favorite cleanser or you can use a drop or two on its own after completing your total skin care regimen.

Some of these plants are still seen in coastal areas but not nearly as plentifully as they once were. The way that the world shifts and changes doesn't just affect animals but also plant life as well. Sea rocket is a plant that many people aren't even aware exists.

If that is the case for this specific plant, imagine how many other plants and seeds and fruits are out there that have similarly impacting nutrient-rich components - many of which may only be available in very limited quantities. This is why research and gaining additional knowledge is so helpful. There may be the perfect answer to an issue you have been dealing with.
