Nutmeg isn’t just for baking anymore. It has migrated into the skincare industry. Full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and with a coarse texture that makes it great for exfoliation, it can be used in all steps of skin care.
This is not a good choice for those who have nut allergies, but the occurrence of reactions in others is low and it is relatively safe for anyone without direct allergies.
Vitamin C In Nutmeg
Vitamin C is a well-known skincare ingredient that is widely used for antiaging and evening of skin tone, as well as boosting collagen and light, even toned, healthy skin. As a necessary vitamin for healthy functioning of the body, it also plays a crucial role in healthy skin.
It helps even skin tone by providing the necessary nutrients to grow healthy skin cells to replace any damaged ones. The healthy cells create an even skin tone and can repair slight scarring from injury or from acne.
Exfoliate Skin With Nutmeg
Another path to reducing the acne-induced scarring is nutmeg’s exfoliating ability that clears the pores and reduces the occurrence of acne. When nutmeg is ground it becomes a coarse powder to exfoliate the skin which can be made into a paste or added to a lotion.
When added to a gentle cleanser or other carrier agent it can be applied to the skin with a small, circular motion that will exfoliate dry and dead skin cells as well as any build-up. This reduces the occurrence of acne and keeps pores clear and skin tone even.
This also removes any damaging environmental pollution and protects the skin from further damage caused by the build-up of particles and dirt in the pores.
Antioxidants In Nutmeg
Antioxidants are key in slowing the signs of aging by boosting collagen production as well as encouraging healthy skin to develop and replace damaged skins cells. Healthy cells will maintain their elasticity, reducing puffiness around the eyes and from wrinkles forming.
Wrinkles form as skin cells lose elasticity and the shape is no longer held well, which is avoided by increasing the nutrients needed to maintain elasticity and keep the skin firm and wrinkles minimal.
Moisturize Skin With Nutmeg
Along with the other benefits, nutmeg helps maintain moisture within the skin and keep dry skin from forming. While dry skin is exfoliated and moisturizer added, the nutrients, including magnesium, calcium, and vitamins, help the skin absorb the moisture. They also help the skin use the moisture, causing the effect to last longer and avoid dry skin and other skin concerns.
While nutmeg can add flavor to meals, it is also beneficial for the skin when applied to the surface. It can be used as an exfoliator or moisturizer, and will reduce the signs of aging while also keeping the skin even and clear of blemishes and acne.
When used upon the scalp it can create a tingly feeling and increase hair growth and help build strong, healthy hair.

Will nutmeg essential oil have the same kind of benefits, or just the powder?
