Skin is a tricky thing, especially for people with underlying conditions. Unfortunately, having a skin condition that affects the appearance of your skin can damage your self-confidence. If you have any of these conditions, speaking to a dermatologist can help you find relief.

Acne affects your skin and appearance

Acne is a common skin condition for every demographic. If you have acne, it’s usually caused by clogged pores. Sometimes, your skin overproduces sebum, which is a naturally-occurring oil used to lubricate your skin. Excess bacteria, ingrown hairs, and hormonal changes are also common causes for acne.

In addition to being difficult to look at, some types of acne can be irritating and painful. For instance, cystic acne can be very painful due to it being so deep in your skin.

Pemphigus affects your skin and appearance

Pemphigus is a skin condition that is fatal in severe cases. This autoimmune disorder mistakenly attacks your epidermal layer of skin, creating blisters. When your antibodies attack desmoglein, which is the protein that keeps your skin together, your skin cells separate.

Once this occurs, fluid accumulates and causes blisters. Sometimes, the infections caused by pemphigus cause death. It’s best to seek professional help to deal with your blisters, especially if they’re taking up large portions of your skin.

Cold Sores affect your skin and appearance

Cold sores are contagious blisters that are commonly spread through close contact. The main cause of these blisters is the herpes simplex type 1 virus. Usually, they’re filled with fluid and often appear on your lips and other parts of your face. Coming in contact with someone with herpes, even if they don’t have an outbreak, makes you vulnerable to contracting it.

When you have a flare-up, they usually last for a couple of weeks. Other symptoms, including fever, irritation, and difficulty breathing often come with the five-step cold sore process. While this condition currently doesn’t have a cure, you can manage your symptoms and outbreaks.

Atopic Dermatitis affects your skin and appearance

Atopic dermatitis disease, also known as eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. This condition usually affects children, however, you can get it as an adult. When you have eczema, your skin becomes very itchy. When you scratch, your skin cracks and may even ooze fluid. Currently, there isn’t a cure for atopic dermatitis. However, your symptoms do temporarily clear.

Although skin conditions can be painful and unsightly, there are ways to find relief. Speak to your doctor about treatment options and how to take care of your skin.
