There are many people out there who are confused about which type of water to consume because there are so many options available in the market. Each option has something different to offer like some additional minerals or other health benefits. However, the question still arises whether to trust the commercial ads or not as some of these are just marketing tactics in order to survive in the market.

This article will help you identify all the main sources of drinking water available these days and tell you about the real health benefits based on scientific evidence. At the end of the article, you will find an idea about which water is the best to be consumed with the most health benefits.

So what are the various types of water available?

Tap Water

Tap water is the type of water that runs out of your water faucet. This type of water is available in your house. In many countries, tap water is supplied by the government or municipal authorities. This is the most available option of water you get.

You can use it for various purposes like drinking, cooking, laundry, washing, cleaning, etc. It is a cheap source of water when it comes to charges. But it also comes with certain risks added to it. According to a survey conducted by the Environment Working Group, the water supplied in some states has various kinds of contaminations in it. This makes tap water not the best option for drinking or cooking.

Bottled water

The next type of water is bottled water which you can find at any convenient store easily. It is portable purified water which you can buy from any shop whenever you feel thirsty. It is easy to carry anywhere and acts as a savior for people who are highly thirsty while travelling.

It is suitable for everyone and is a good source of drinking water anywhere you want. The biggest risk and issue with it is that many brands have admitted that the water in bottles is nothing but just filtered tap water. Plus, the creation of the water bottle is done by using plastic. This plastic is very difficult to recycle which means your bottles will end up taking space in the landfills.

The plastic also goes into water bodies leading to a lot of contamination in water. Around 25 percent of bottled water is simply purified water which includes well-known brands like Aquafina and Dasani.

Alkaline water

Alkaline water has a pH level of eight and above. This pH level is higher than that of normal drinking water. It is popular in the market because research says that an alkaline diet helps you maintain good health.

The benefit of alkaline water is that it is very beneficial for the human body in order to maintain an alkaline ph level. But the World Health Organization warns against drinking water regularly that has low mineral content. Even alkaline water is low in minerals and nutrients.

Distilled water

Distilled water, which is also known as demineralized water, is the type of water that comes with no minerals or ions. Everything is removed from the water. It is the purest form of water that you can consume and has nothing good or bad added to it, which means no contamination, bacteria, nutrients or minerals.

This type of water is almost sterile and has the highest level of purity. There are no risks associated with distilled water because it is very clean. However, some people say that it is not the best option for drinking as it has no health benefits associated with it such as minerals and ions.

Hydrogen water

This water contains hydrogen molecules that work as powerful antioxidants. These molecules help your body neutralize harmful radicals that lead to the development of various diseases. It reduces inflammation in your body and also helps in reducing aging.

This water is best for people who are very health conscious and can happily spend extra money on something that has a lot of health benefits. But, there comes risk as many of the people claim that the water is tested on mice and it showed a positive result, although it has not been that conclusive in human beings and gives no guarantee. Also, the water is quite expensive so not everyone can afford it.

Boiled water

Boiled water is one of the cheapest types of drinking water and is the most effective way of purifying water. Boiled water is usually clean, safe and healthy and can be consumed by everyone, but the taste of boiled water is not that preferable. Boiling water purifies it easily so it is not highly contaminated, but boiling water cannot purify water which is contaminated with pesticides, nitrates, lead and other chemicals.

How can you differentiate between normal bottled water and pure mountain spring water?

You can look for the word “spring water” on the label of the bottle. Bottled water brands can only claim spring water if their water is verified to be from a spring directly. Other bottles will read-only “purified water” or “distilled water”. You will even find a major difference in the taste as purified water does not taste much harder as compared to spring water. It is much lighter in taste and it tastes better than spring water.

Which type of water is best for drinking?

The healthiest water type is hydrogen water because it contains potential health benefits like antioxidants. Still, even the healthiest water won’t come with a 100 percent guarantee. Any type of water can give minor health issues and none of the types will repair an unhealthy diet or lifestyle, so it is all up to you.

Any type of water which is clean and free from impurities is healthy enough for you. You should consider all the various types of healthy water. Drinking healthy water can help you maintain a diet and lifestyle that is already healthy, but it can’t help you if it’s not.

Conclusion

Water is connected to everything that belongs to the earth. Therefore, a clean, healthy and adequate supply of drinking water is a must. Drinking safe water is a fundamental right in the U.S.

This also helps in improving the lifestyle of people. Still, there are many inequalities when it comes to access to safe drinking water because in some countries there is no access. The increasing population is alarming, but the availability of fresh water remains constant.
