With the cold weather moving in around the country, now is the time to prepare and protect your body from the harsh temperatures coming. Cold temperatures often bring along serious ailments, along with feelings of melancholy. While this is true, there are steps you can take to help ensure you stay healthy and happy throughout the season.

Keep reading to learn how to prepare your body for winter and ensure you enjoy all the colder weather winter has to offer.

Increase Your Intake of Vitamin D

Your body produces vitamin D naturally in the sun. In areas where sunlight is limited during the winter months, vitamin D deficiency is a common issue.

Vitamin D is a great way to fight against seasonal diseases, such as the flu and the common cold.

If you can’t get outside and get some sun, adding more vitamin D to your diet is a good idea. Foods like flax seeds, dairy products, walnuts, chia seeds, cod, and salmon are examples of foods full of vitamin D.

Workout to Remain Warm

You must continue to work out during the winter months to maintain your health and fitness. A quality workout program will help to warm up your muscles and prevent strains and injuries. During the winter months, many people also gain weight because of the holiday season.

Taking time to work out during this season will help prevent this type of weight gain. Exercising regularly will also regulate your mood, fight feelings of depression, and keep you happy and healthy.

Care for Your Skin

Taking proper care of your skin is a must to get ready for winter. When you notice the first bit of chill in the air, you will likely notice patchy, dry skin, too. The colder months of the year are when you need to take time to show your skin a little TLC.

Moisturizing it is a must. Consider switching to a thicker moisturizer and avoid taking long, hot showers since this will strip your skin of essential nutrients.

Keep in mind that even if you can’t see the sun, it’s still there. As a result, you need to wear SPF when you are outdoors during the day to protect your skin from significant UV exposure.

Give Your Immune System a Boost

If your immune system is weak, it is also susceptible to diseases like the flu and the common cold. It also means you are more likely to contract these. During the winter, your goal should be to keep your immune system strong so it can fight off common winter-time ailments.

A great way to increase your immunity is with vitamin C. If you don’t want to take a supplement, eat more fruit. Another immune booster is zinc since it will use white blood cells to defend your body against disease-causing pathogens. Try adding foods that are rich in zinc to your diet, such as whole grains, nuts, beans, shrimp, and crab.

Add Spices, Fruits, and Vegetables to Your Diet

Spices such as turmeric, vegetables, and fruits all provide your body with natural antioxidants. These help your body fight common winter diseases. Be sure you are fueling your body with all these types of foods. They also include essential vitamins and minerals that will help boost your immune system.

Take Stock of the Products You Are Using

It’s good to check the products you are using to ensure they are still good when the seasons change. After all, if you use vitamins that have expired, they aren’t going to have the same benefits.

You may also wonder – does toothpaste expire, and what about moisturizer? Now is a good time to go through your cabinets and ensure everything you are using is good, which will help ensure they can do their job this winter.

Winter is here, so now is the time to take steps to protect your body and health. The tips and information above will help you with this goal.
