Getting started with a new exercise routine can be intimidating. There is so much information out there for so many different types of exercises. How do you know which is the best one for you? Before you start out with the first thing you come across, get to know your options. Learn about the benefits of the different types of exercises and what they can do for your health.

What are your goals? Knowing where you want to be is useful when you are determining what to choose. Any exercise that you do will only benefit you. There is no wrong way as long as you listen to your body and don't push yourself to the point of injury.

Try out a few different kinds of activities to find what works for you. The best fit is always something that you enjoy enough to stick with. Keep in mind that nearly any type of exercise can be modified and adapted to your current fitness level and any limitations you may have.

High Intensity

Cardio exercise is anything that gets your heart rate up and your blood pumping. These types of exercises are great for strengthening your heart muscle and improving your lung function to build endurance.

There are two types of cardio exercise. The first is high-intensity cardio, which is an intense aerobic activity. This is usually done in the form of HIIT or high-intensity interval training. This involves alternating short bursts of activity where you give it your all with periods of rest. A HIIT routine can be great for time management, but it can increase the risk of injury.

Low Impact

Low impact cardio is another form of exercise that still gets your heart working and is a great way to get into shape, but is less jarring for the body. This is a great alternative for anyone that has issues or concerns with their joints, as it is much more gentle.

Walking is a wonderful and relaxing form of low-impact exercise. Others are swimming and riding a bike. Anything that doesn't involve a lot of jumping and strain on the joints is considered low-impact.

Strength Training

This is a type of exercise that uses resistance with either weights or your body weight to build your muscle strength, tone, and endurance. Strength training has also been found to be highly effective in aiding weight loss. The reason behind this is that the more muscle you have, the more fat you are able to burn.

Stretching

Most people tend to overlook the importance of stretching, but this will greatly improve your flexibility and range of motion. Taking some time each day to stretch out your muscles can relieve pain and stiffness and instantly cause you to relax. Stretching daily will start to loosen up stiff joints and muscles, allowing you to be able to move around more comfortably and with less pain.

Balance

Another exercise that is important for your overall health is balance. This is especially important as you get older. Adding in some movements to boost your ability to balance is another way to increase your mobility and can help prevent you from falling easily and hurting yourself. Simple actions such as standing on one leg can be effective and easy ways to work on your balance.

Try to devote some time to them a few days each week. If you want to really improve your health and fitness, and get the body you have always wanted, then a combination of these exercises will be the most effective. You can alternate cardio days with weights, and add a few moments of stretching to each session or find a routine that hits all the areas at once, like certain types of yoga.

If you make a genuine effort to follow through and get some exercise each day, you will soon find your physical condition, mental health, and overall happiness will be greatly enhanced.
