Quitting smoking is impossible for some people, and fairly easy for others. For everyone, it is never an overnight process. Fortunately, smokers have a wide range of cessation methods to choose from. Here are four ways to increase your chances of quitting.

Substitute Cigarettes to help quit smoking

When you have cravings, replace cigarettes with safer, less addictive items like sugar or caffeine. Overconsuming a common household product is unhealthy but safer than using nicotine or tobacco. Consider exercising and physical activities that require just the same amount of energy as smoking. Combine two or more new habits that clear your mind of having an addiction.

Use E-Cigarettes to help quit smoking

Electronic cigarettes are effective anti-smoking devices that imitate smoking to encourage quitting. E-cigarettes that use more natural ingredients, such as glycerin and menthol, are safer alternatives to traditional cigarettes that contain thousands of unnatural particles like lead, ammonia and formaldehyde.

The most dangerous and addictive chemical is nicotine. Some companies provide nicotine-free tobacco flavored e-liquid that imitates the taste of tobacco while reducing your dependence on nicotine.

Join a Support Group to help quit smoking

Putting down a cigarette and refusing to use one again is not the most effective method. Many people are addicted to nicotine, and within a few days, undergo withdrawal symptoms that include intense cravings.

A support group has members who are struggling with the decision to quit. They may discuss the reasons that they started smoking, the factors that trigger their habit and other issues. Some of them are ex-smokers who want to share their advice on quitting. You may find people who refused to smoke, smoked for many years and developed serious health conditions.

Maintain a Progress Chart to help quit smoking

Monitoring the results of your smoking cessation program is necessary. You have to know which techniques are working and which are not; otherwise, you'll continue using the wrong methods for a much longer time than necessary. List the techniques that you're using, the types of results you've seen and how long you were able to maintain them without returning to smoking.

Smoking has very few health benefits besides promoting temporary feelings of relaxation. It's important to quit as soon as possible and no matter how hard it gets. You are likely to undergo withdrawal symptoms and have intense cravings that could go on all day. You must choose the right method to help you discontinue one of the unhealthiest habits that has ever affected you.
