One very simple rule in all commerce is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you come across ads that tell you that you can have beautifully white teeth in under a week and for less than $5, they are probably teeth-whitening scams.

Test The Data

If you are still not sure if an offer is legitimate or not, do a little more testing. Do another internet search, and note how many websites or stories pop up that are basically saying the same thing, but perhaps the name of the discoverer is changed, or the location at which they live.

Review The Reviews

Read the reviews on a few different websites. Are they basically saying the same thing? What kind of contact info is listed for the contributors? Can you add comments/reviews? Are there any mediocre or negative reviews? Let’s be honest, not everyone is going to be pleased with a product, so if there are no dissuading reviews, then they are probably fake.

Check Out Images

Check out the images your search pulls up. If “one mom” in Boston, MA learned this trick to whiten teeth, why does she look so different in photos on various websites?

Watch For Fake “Deals”

Some other indications that it is a scam are fake countdowns that tell you you must order within the next 15:15...15:14...15:13. Yet it hits zero, and nothing changes. Another telltale sign is supposed celebrity endorsements that are nothing more than a teeth whitening scam adding a photo to their page.

FDA Approved?

Does the in-store or online product claim it is FDA approved? If so, then it is certainly being misleading, if not an outright teeth whitening scam. Only in-office whitening is approved by the FDA, while those you can buy OTC are considered cosmetic, and not reviewed or regulated by the FDA.

The world seems to have become obsessed with having bright white teeth. Studies show that 40.5 million people in the United States alone used teeth whitening products in 2018.
