Most know that testosterone is a necessary hormone for men. It enhances sexual characteristics, muscular strength, and bone density. When testosterone levels are low, you'll likely experience these five symptoms.

Strong Mood Changes

Those with low testosterone will experience strong mood changes frequently. This is due to the influence that low testosterone has on many processes of the body. It highly affects your mental capacity and mood. If you notice that you're more irritable, it's harder to focus than normal, and/or you're battling depression, it's time to talk to your doctor about checking your testosterone level.

Increase In Body Fat

An increase in body fat is another indicator that your testosterone level may be low. Many men may even find themselves gaining body fat in the breast tissue. This is referred to as gynecomastia. Men will also experience gains in body fat in other areas of the body including the flanks, lower back, and stomach. If you're gaining unwanted body fat and haven't made any real changes in your level of activity or food consumption, low testosterone could be to blame.

Decreased Muscle Mass

Testosterone plays a big role in building and maintaining muscle mass. Those with low testosterone levels will experience a drastic decrease in the musculature throughout their body. If you're doing the same amount of exercise that you're used to and still losing muscle mass, then it may be time to look into testosterone replacement therapy.

Hair Loss

While genetics does play a big role in hair loss, it's just one of a number of causes. Low testosterone levels can impede several bodily functions, including hair production. Men with low testosterone levels will experience a drastic loss in their facial and body hair. This will come on suddenly instead of gradually over time.

Low Sex Drive

One of the most well-known symptoms of a low testosterone level is low sex drive. Testosterone is a key player in libido among men. While it's very common for sex drive to decrease with age, it will happen gradually. When low sex drive is due to low testosterone you'll experience a drastic drop-off in your desire to have sex. You may also experience difficulty achieving and even maintaining an erection.

Low testosterone isn't anything new. However, more and more men are experiencing the symptoms of low testosterone and are working to enhance them. The above are just some of the many symptoms you may experience when you have low testosterone. It's best to talk with your doctor about treating your low testosterone before it gets worse.
