4 Reasons To Have A Workout Buddy

Accountability is what holds us responsible for completing whatever task or goal we set for ourselves. It can be easy to slack off or not put your best effort forth when you perform alone. This can be especially true when it comes to working out and training. A dedicated accountability partner can transform your diet and exercise regimen for many reasons.

Here are a few reasons to get a buddy to commit to a program with you.

1. Nutrition

Diet plays a significant role in achieving the level of fitness we desire. We must burn more calories than we consume to lose weight. The foods we choose to fuel our body with also determine how lean we can become. By choosing healthy, nutritious foods and controlling portions, we can optimize our fitness journey.

It can be challenging to start a new diet alone. Your chances of successfully completing the diet increase greatly when your significant other or friend is participating with you. The idea of cheating on the diet becomes something you do not want to do when you know someone else is counting on you to hold them accountable.

For diet purposes, it is often easier if the person you live with is your accountability buddy, because there is less risk of temptation for unhealthy foods in the house. Plus, it is easier to cook meals for two instead of preparing different meals.

You might even consider using thrive patch supplements with your friend or partner to increase health benefits and jumpstart your path to fitness.

2. Socialize

Our lives become very hectic with work, kids, family obligations and other daily commitments. Often, it can be hard to find time to see our friends. You can kill two birds with one stone by pairing up with your friend to work out.

You will get your workout in while also socializing with your friend. You may be more motivated to complete your workout because you are looking forward to seeing your friend. You can catch up on a bike ride, walk or run and feel good about it.

3. Schedule

An accountability partner helps you set dates and times to work out. You are more likely to follow through because you do not want to bail on your friend. Even if you can only dedicate one day per week to meeting in person together, that’s one more workout than you may have gotten in that week.

Create a schedule together, such as 30 minutes of cardio exercise at least three times per week or something similar that fits what you desire out of your fitness journey.

You do not have to meet to do the workouts if it is not feasible, but you can know that on set days of the week, your partner is going to perform their exercises. This will keep you motivated to stick to your schedule.

4. Texting

Another great benefit of an accountability buddy is that you do not have to be in the same location to hold each other accountable. You can use texting to check-in, encourage, motivate and share daily workouts. You can do the same thing for your diet, as well.

A daily picture or summary of the workout can show your partner you’ve completed yours and can even kick them into gear to start theirs if they have not already. You feel more compelled to stay on schedule and put the work in when you know you have someone else to report to each day.

Conclusion

Holding ourselves accountable for our actions and the results we see is one of the most challenging aspects of fitness for some individuals. Lack of motivation, failure to push as hard as we can or should and skipping out on workouts altogether are common for those beginning to work out or starting a new program.

The benefit of starting a regimen with a friend is that you have someone else to hold you accountable. If you’re ready to see results, find an accountability buddy and give it a shot!
