Most people want to take good care of their body and their health, and this includes their skin too. Skincare, especially focused on your face and neck, can feel overwhelming.

There are many different types of skincare, as there are many different types of skin. Some people naturally have dry skin, whereas some people naturally have oily skin. Some people want to focus on having skin free from acne and breakouts, whereas other people want to focus on having few wrinkles and smooth skin.

The good news is this: there are countless skincare products available for all skin types and skincare goals. Whether you are looking for quality plant-based skin care, organic skincare, or top-rated skin care, you can find products you want within your budget.

What products do you need?

If you could only pick just one skincare product to use every day, it would be a cleanser. Cleansers are used to remove bacteria, pollutants and dirt from your face. Some can also be used to remove makeup.

There are cleansers for people with dry skin, who do not want cleansers to remove any excess moisture from their skin, and cleansers for people with acne, who want cleansers that can help fight breakouts from occurring or getting worse.

The runner-up to skincare products to use every day after cleansers is moisturizer. Moisturizers can help your skin look younger, and prevent your face from getting dry or scaly. Facial moisturizers can be extra hydrating, prevent too much oil from building up, or reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Some moisturizers contain sunscreen, which means they can keep your skin hydrated while also protecting it from any damage from the sun. Using regular sunscreen on your face may be effective at preventing UV damage, but can irritate your face if your skin is sensitive.

Using a moisturizer with sunscreen can eliminate this concern. Sunscreen is important to use no matter where you live or what you do but is crucial for people who live in sunny places or spend a lot of time outdoors each day.

Toner, another type of skincare product, is more liquid-based as compared to cleansers and moisturizers. Toners are usually applied to the skin after cleansing and before moisturizing, and are best used with a cotton pad or ball. They are a great follow-up to cleansing, as they can remove any remaining makeup or dirt from your skin.

As with many other skincare products, you can select toner based on your skin concerns or skin goals. If you have oily or more sensitive skin, look for toners that do not have alcohol. If you have rosacea, look for toners that do not have witch hazel, glycolic acid, or benzoyl peroxide.

When do you use them?

People typically use cleansers twice a day, in the morning and at night, though some opt to only use them at night. Some people use them a third time after doing something that might increase bacteria and dirt on their face, such as exercising.

Toners are typically used after cleansing, so they may be used once, twice, or three times a day. Moisturizers should also be applied after using a cleanser and a toner. Regardless of whether you use a cleanser and a toner in the morning, you should still use a moisturizer with sunscreen. Consider re-applying the moisturizer every three to four hours or after your face gets wet from water or sweat.

Where do you find them?

You can find skincare products almost anywhere: in retail stores, online, specialty face shops, spas, aestheticians' offices, and dermatologists' offices. If you want to shop from a retail store or online, consider writing down what kinds of products you are looking for so you can select them easily.

If you are unsure about whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or some combination, trained professionals such as dermatologists or aestheticians may be able to help you out, too.
