The sea buckthorn bush grows throughout the north-western portion of Europe, as well as Asia, and the northern areas of China and the Himalayas. As it grows it helps to improve soil levels of nitrogen, which in turn helps the soil become healthier and heartier until it can maintain growth of other less hardy plants. This makes it suitable for improving farm land and protecting soil from erosion. The branches, leaves, and berries on these bushes are used for a wide range of applications including animal food, human food consumption, teas, juices, medicinal treatments, and for decoration.
The berry of the sea buckthorn has been used for centuries in Asia and Europe for medicinal purposes. It has been used to treat coughs and colds, reduce fever, help improve inflammation, and treat lung conditions, abscesses, and even tumours. It can be consumed in many different forms, as well as topically for skin concerns.
When used to make oil, the nutrients from the berries are good for many ailments. They have high levels of vitamin E and vitamin C, carotenoids, a high concentration of essential fatty acids, and phytosterols. All of these are suitable for helping to heal skin and inner medical concerns, including eczema, burns, and healing stubborn wounds. Due to its nutrient content this berry extract can be used for decreasing inflammation through consumption, and skin conditions through topical use. It encourages the growth of healthy cells and cell repair, while encouraging skin to hold moisture. The antioxidant nature helps to maintain healthy skin and body, and may help with healthy hair growth as well.
Reasons To Avoid
As with many foods and treatments, there are times that it should not be used. It may slow down the ability of the blood to clot, leading to bleeding issues among people with a bleeding disorder. It is also not recommended around a surgery date as the slower clotting will lead to increased bleeding and risk. For people with low blood pressure, this berry extract is not recommended as it may lower blood pressure even more, but that does make it a useful ingredient for those with high blood pressure, and can help to balance cholesterol. This should not be used by people taking any form of medication that already slows the clotting of the blood, for the same reasons mentioned above.
Sea buckthorn berries grow on the sea buckthorn bush, and both the plant itself and the berries can be used for multiple purposes from farming to cholesterol and even lung conditions. When prior conditions are present it is best to consult with a doctor to avoid interactions and before any surgery or dental procedures. This is a natural option for treating things as common as a cold or as complicated as lung conditions, diabetes, and skin irritations such as burns or eczema. Few ingredients are this versatile or have been used for as long.
