Most people have a vague idea about essential oils and aromatherapy being beneficial, but not everyone knows how to go about maximizing the health benefits. In fact, the majority of people who know about them are only just beginning to understand and unlock the effects they can have on the body, spirit and mind.

The trouble is, when it comes to selecting the relevant products for your life, there are a lot of products out there and not all of them are equal. A lot of them should also be applied in different ways. Here are the best essential oils on the market for various health needs.

  1. Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil not only smells amazing, but also increases your alertness. It is perfect to massage into your hands in the morning before you head to work, giving you the boost you need to smash the day ahead of you. Most essential oils’ successes are a result of aroma, but this is doubly beneficial.

Yes, the smell is important and effective, but the process of massaging it into your troubled skin is also life-changing.

  1. Lavender Oil

This oil is often praised for its delightful smell, and as a result kept in drawers or used to spritz a room into feeling fresh and clean. What people do not always know is how powerful an antiseptic it is. So, if you’ve got any minor cuts and bruises you need taken care of, dab some lavender oil on a cotton bud and apply to the area with care. You will notice the improvement in no time.

  1. Chamomile Oil

Chamomile is famously good at relaxing you - whether it is in a hot cup of tea or in its oil form. Health blogger at Writemyx and Next Coursework, Victoria Icely, describes the best way to use the oil: “With something this successful at relaxing you and de-stressing you, it is the perfect oil to put a few drops of into your bath in the evening.

Not only will it help you unwind after a long day, but it also makes your skin softer and removes blemishes or irritations.”

  1. Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is commonly used for common cold remedies, such as a sore throat or congestion. This is why it is often incorporated into lozenges and nasal sprays. Unlike other oils, it should not be applied directly to the skin for maximum benefit. Instead, it should be vaporized. A great way to do this is to heat a towel and dab the oil onto it, then breath in through the towel.

  1. Frankincense Oil

Frankincense oil is a tool for relaxation. It does an excellent job of calming and soothing the soul and mind. It is often used in yoga sessions for this reason, to maximize the scope for tension release. It is also a natural healer for small cuts, so like tea tree oil, it will do great in the bath after a long day.

  1. Tea Tree Oil

This Australian-native oil is the ultimate fungus fighter, meaning that it is great for infections or skin irritations as well as the occasional bout of smelly feet. Health care writer at Brit student and Australia 2 write, Brock Torr, says:

“Consider mixing this with a bit of aloe vera and you have got yourself the perfect product for skin repair.” If you’re specifically using the product for your feet, you might want to consider using it in a foot bath to target the area you want to remedy.

There is no question about it - aromatherapy and essential oils are very helpful, rewarding and beneficial to your mind, body and soul. You just need to know where to look or you may end up with less optimal products, or diluted ones. Whether it is an infused massage you are after, or a steaming, oily, infused bath, you will be able to tell straight away how much better and uplifted you feel from use.
