A body scrub can help remove dead and damaged skin cells from the body and keep skin soft, hydrated, and healthy. They can be used alone or followed with a cleanser or body lotion. With a few easy steps you can get the most form your body scrub.

Selecting a body scrub

When choosing a body scrub, find one that is well suited to your needs. Types include hypoallergenic, moisturizing, for sensitive skin, and come in assorted scents. Since many companies make a body scrub it might take a few tries to find just the right one that aligns with your preferences.

Skincare companies that are cruelty free and even vegan all have body scrubs in their line of products, and there is sure to be one that fits your needs.

Along with individual benefits, based upon content and ingredients, a body scrub will help remove buildup of dead cells, prepare the skin for easy absorption of moisturizer, and can slow the formation of wrinkles and other signs of aging, while maintaining an even skin tone.

The physical act of the scrubbing and cleansing will increase the circulation in the area and help the skin get all of the nutrients that it needs from the body.

Types of body scrubs

Body scrubs come in two main types - cream or lotion based - and can be found in a tub or a tube. They are applied to the body with your hands or a facecloth and are used on damp skin and best used in the shower to avoid any spills.

Other body scrubs can be applied with a cloth, loofa, or soft-bristled brush. These must be cleaned well after each use and allowed to dry. They can be used alone or with a cleanser or soap to clean the body while it exfoliates.

To use a body scrub efficiently the skin should be wet or damp as this will allow for the most effectiveness. Begin with large areas and gently scrub in a circular motion. Rinse and pat dry. If using a loofa or cloth be sure to cleanse it after use and hang it to dry.

Maintaining skin health is not only for the face and neck, but all areas of the body. The skin shows signs of aging and buildup over the entire body and using a body scrub can help to slow the signs of aging, prepare the skin for absorbing the hydration from a moisturizer, and remove buildup and dead cells while relieving itching and discomfort.
