How Natural Methods Can Boost Your Eye Treatments

Issues with your eyes can be caused by many different ailments, and while consulting with a medical professional is critical if they become serious, there are plenty of all-natural remedies that have been used for generations.

If you find yourself dealing with mild irritation or looking for a supplement to your medical regimen, these methods can potentially help relieve the pain.

Warm and Cold Compresses To boost your eye treatments

Both warm and cold compresses can be effective ways to reduce swelling and alleviate pain, but they serve different purposes. If your pain is caused by an injury, a cold compress can be applied immediately. It numbs the area, reducing the pain you feel in the process.

Warm compresses work differently, stimulating blood circulation and raising the body temperature. They shouldn’t be applied within the first 48 hours, but they can be an especially strong choice if you’ve developed styes or are experiencing acute dryness.

Tea Bags To boost your eye treatments

Tea bags probably aren’t going to heal your eye infection, but they can help soothe the swelling. But rather than drinking it, you’ll want to steep the bag, let it cool, and place it directly to the affected area.

The same premise as a cool compress applies here, but it’s the anti-inflammatory properties in some teas that make them such an allegedly effective home remedy. Black tea, green tea, and chamomile stand out as some of the best choices thanks to their especially high level of antioxidants.

Saline To boost your eye treatments

Tears are your body’s natural way of flushing out harmful particles, so it makes sense that saltwater would work to clear out irritants causing eye pain or swelling. But that doesn’t mean that you need to go take a dip in the ocean. Saline solutions can be found over the counter and offer a sterile solution that’s commonly recommended in cases of eye infections.

You can also make your own. Simply mixing four cups of sterilized water with two teaspoons of salt can give you an easy remedy with what you probably already have around the kitchen. Just make sure to boil any water that comes from the tap and be sure to use non-iodized salt.

There’s no doubt that eye pain is frustrating, but that doesn’t mean you should jump to drastic solutions. Consult an eye doctor if the pain is persistent or acute, and be sure to ask them about any natural remedies. Many of these natural solutions will work with your other treatment plans.
