Who has time for a skincare routine when you have a bunch of papers, exams, parties, and hobbies to juggle? Well, what if you’ll need only three minutes or less to take care of your skin? There’s no justification for dismissing skincare in that case.

No one can expect that a college student has time for a full-on pampering skincare routine every morning and night. But there are a few essential and yet quick things you can do to nourish your skin within minutes.

So, are you ready to hear all about how you can manage a skincare routine in less than three minutes? Here’s what you’ll need.

1. Micellar Water for college skincare routine

In case you wear makeup, taking it off with micellar water should be the first step.

Of course, you won’t have to do this in the morning, which means that your morning routine will demand even less time.

The great thing about micellar water is that it is gentle on your skin, but it fights strongly against any surface dirt.

A dermatopathologist, Dr. Gretchen Frieling, shared in a EverydayHealth post that “Because of its gentleness, micellar water can be used on skin with rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis, but if you have these skin conditions, it’s still best to check with your doctor before using it.”

It is also a great compromise if you wish to clean your face but find cleansers to be too rough on your skin. Micellar water will remove excess oil, makeup, and dirt without risking your skin’s structure.

2. Cleanser for college skincare routine

Make sure that your skin is properly clean by using a cleanser. Dr. Charles Zugerman, Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Northwestern University, explained that "Facial cleansers remove makeup, pollutants, bacteria, and unwanted debris off of our face.”

You can cleanse your face both in the morning and in the evening. But if you wish, you can use the cleanser only before going to bed. A cleanser is a valuable part of your nighttime routine as it will ensure that all your makeup is removed and your face is squeaky clean.

It’s relevant to mention that using a cleanser isn’t necessary if you notice that your skin is too sensitive for it. Over-cleansing your skin can strip off all your natural oils.

For example, if you have dry skin, using a cleanser for oily skin can make your skin flakey and even drier.

However, if you have an oily or combination skin, a cleanser can be a miracle product.

Using the cleanser won’t take you more than 40 seconds. Simply splash your face with water, gently wash your face with the cleanser, and lastly, wash off all the product with water.

3. Toner for college skincare routine

A toner will replenish your skin, improve your skin tone, and soothe it. Yup, it does all that for your skin.

All you need to do is to put a few drops on the cotton pad and wipe your face with it. Within 30 seconds, you’ll be done with the toner.

When choosing a toner, go for the one that is alcohol-free and balances pH levels. This means that you should purchase a toner that is pH-balanced. The skin’s optimal pH is 5.5, and pH balancing toners will help you restore that level.

Find a toner that suits your skin by taking a look at Marie Claire’s post on “The best toner for every skin type in 2020.”

4. Moisturizer with SPF/Night cream for college skincare routine

This last step has two different versions – for morning routine and nighttime routine.

In the morning, put on some moisturizer after you apply the toner. Buy a moisturizer with SPF so that you don’t need to apply sunscreen separately.

Dr. Sandra Willis, a dermatologist and contributor writer at GrabMyEssay, emphasizes that sun protection is a must. “Even if there is no sun, the UVA rays will still get to your skin and do the damage. SPF battles with skin pigmentation, wrinkles, and dryness,” said Sandra.

For the nighttime, opt for a nourishing face cream that will restore your skin's moisture after a long, exhausting day.

Occasional Pampering Tips for college skincare routine

Once a week - or every other week - you can spare a few minutes to do something extra for your skin. You can slip it in among your weekend relaxation activities.

Here’s what you can do for some additional care that won’t take you much time:

  • Put on a sheet mask – There is a variety of sheet masks that you can purchase in any drugstore. Choose the one that can benefit your skin most such as a sheet mask for open pores or for balancing out a skin tone.
  • Make a DIY mask – Mix up some nourishing ingredients. You can find a lot of ideas online and feed your skin with vitamins. You can throw on your little mix of ingredients and head straight to doing your homework while your DIY mask does its magic.
  • Use an exfoliantExfoliating your skin will give it a brighter look and remove all dead skin.
