Creating a more natural routine includes household oral care. As the mouth absorbs toxins and ingredients easily and quickly it deserves the best that can be offered, and often that is a natural product that avoids allergens and irritants.
Change toothbrush for natural oral care
Changing your toothbrush frequently, choosing a tongue scraper, using an all-natural toothpaste or oil, adding oil pulling, and using mint to freshen breath and keep the mouth healthy can all reduce the number of ingredients in your dental care and keep your mouth healthy.
While many toothbrushes are plastic with nylon bristles there are several other options. A bamboo toothbrush can be very gentle on teeth and gums, leading to less wear and damage with no scratching on either surface.
A toothbrush that has a charcoal in the bristles can boost germ-killing properties and increase dental health with naturally occurring materials. Some may even invest in an ionic toothbrush which is said to help the toothbrush attract the germs and plaque towards the toothbrush to increase removal and decrease the build-up on teeth.
Change toothpaste for natural oral care
A new toothpaste that is gentle and created with more natural ingredients can also be added. Many natural toothpastes can be found or even made, using ingredients such as baking soda, mints, and even eucalyptus to kill germs while maintaining the probiotic and healthy germs that are present in the mouth.
With many choices available there is one that is suitable for almost anyone, while avoiding potential allergens or intolerances. For those who find activated charcoal works well for them toothpastes are more frequently including this ingredient that can be paired with an activated charcoal toothbrush.
Oil pulling for natural oral care
Many ayurvedic and yoga communities have used oil pulling to benefit the teeth and mouth for over a century and find it helps remove toxins, cleans teeth, and helps keep gums healthy. This process is easy to add to your routine and the necessary products can be found in most kitchens.
An oil - often vegetable, coconut, or olive - is swished around the mouth and around all the teeth. This can be done quickly at the beginning of your oral care routine, before brushing commences, and may assist in removing build-up on the teeth and gums as well as help keep the area clean and healthy.
Follow-up brushing removes the residue left by the oil so there is no discomfort while removing any other build-up or residue present. While it may seem as though oil pulling could replace mouthwash, in fact it does not.
Mouthwash for natural oral care
A mouthwash can be replaced by a more natural version containing ingredients such as essential oils or minerals. Chewing mint leaves is also effective to freshen breath.
Chewing mint reduces dental pain, boosts germs fighting, and leaves the breath fresh in a natural way. Since mint can be easily grown in most kitchens it is sustainable and affordable.
When creating a more natural oral care routine most products can be simply replaced with a more natural option, and oil pulling has been shown to have several benefits with just one added step.
Teeth should continue to be brushed, flossed, and rinsed as needed. With many charcoal, bamboo, and other renewable resources it can be easy to switch to more natural products while maintaining oral health.
