Tooth discoloration is a very normal thing that occurs due to the types of food that people consume on a daily basis. However, those who indulged in stronger foods and drinks such as coffee may see tooth discoloration occur that much faster. Understandably, people want to find ways to remove those stains from their teeth.

Read on to learn how a dentist may be able to help you whiten your discolored teeth.

Tooth Whitening Product Suggestions

One of the best things a person can do is catch tooth discoloration before it gets worse. However, by the time someone begins to see their teeth turning yellow, removing it with normal brushing of the teeth is often not possible. This is where a dentist and their expertise come in.

If the staining isn't too bad and you don't want to spend a lot of money on a procedure, a dentist may be able to recommend an over-the-counter teeth whitening product that you can use. The reason why you may need a dentist's opinion is because of the vast amount of products on the market that simply do not work or are harmful.

Home Treatments

Sometimes, removing strong stains is not possible within one session. The process to do so may simply be too long. That is why a dentist will often recommend that their patient do an at-home treatment to remove their teeth stains. These treatments can vary between dentists as each has its own methods. However, a popular at-home treatment involves using a cast of your teeth filled with whitening gel.

You would likely be asked to place this cast along with the gel into your mouth for about an hour or so each day until you have reached your desired tooth color. There are also natural treatments that people can try under the advisement of their dentist, and it is important to remember that not every natural method works.

In-Office Treatment

When it comes to tooth discoloration, there is often much more than the color of your teeth that a dentist is going to be concerned about. Remember, they're not just there to help you look better but to protect your health as well. That is why in cases where other factors such as heavy tarter are involved, an in-office treatment would be the best route to take.

Although tooth discoloration is perfectly normal, most people do not want to be walking around with stained teeth. Fortunately, options do exist to correct this issue. Simply contact your dentist to schedule an appointment and figure out together what your best route should be to finally achieve that bright white smile.
