Crooked Teeth? Here Are Your Options For Straightening Them

Now is a great time to straighten your teeth with braces. Getting braces no longer has to mean wearing highly visible and somewhat uncomfortable shiny silver squares on the front of your teeth. Today you have many options available to you, all of which are far more discreet than the braces of old.

Invisalign For Crooked Teeth

The Invisalign system uses a series of clear trays to move your teeth. These clear trays easily slip over your teeth, slowly shifting them into position as you go about your day.

Invisalign is both discreet and easy to live with. You’ll remove the liners when you eat and when you clean them, making them much easier to maintain than traditional braces.

Lingual Braces For Crooked Teeth

Unfortunately, Invisalign doesn’t work for everyone. If you’re not a good candidate for Invisalign but wish to hide your braces, lingual braces may prove your best choice. These braces look and feel like traditional metal braces, but they’re placed on the inside of your teeth where no one will see them.

Given their location, some people find lingual braces a bit harder to keep clean, and you may need a few days to adjust to talking with your braces on. The lingual brace also tends to cost more, although many feel the price difference is well worth it.

Traditional Braces For Crooked Teeth

If you want to straighten your teeth with as little cost and fuss as possible, traditional braces are still the way to go. Even here, however, you’ll have options you didn’t before.

Clear brackets are now available, making braces much less noticeable. You may also choose to go in another direction and embrace your braces wholeheartedly. If discretion isn’t an issue, you can select various fun colors that will stand out in a crowd.

Retainers For Crooked Teeth

Typically used to hold teeth in place for a time when braces are removed, your orthodontist may use a retainer to straighten your teeth. This is a rare occurrence, however, and typically works only or patients who had braces in the past or whose teeth are only slightly misaligned. You could get lucky but know that retainers aren’t enough to fix most alignment issues.

Your personal desires will play a large part in determining which braces you choose but remember that you may not get the final say. Your orthodontist must determine which system will work best for your teeth and which ones may not. The two of you will then choose the right braces for you together.
